HUMAN CENTERED, DESIGN LED STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS IN 2025, AND THAT HAS LED US TO UPDATE OUR MISSION SLIGHTLY.

AND I LOVED PRESIDENT WAYMAN WHEN YOU KICKED US OFF WITH THE READING OF THE MISSION FOR THE BOARD, IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO KEEP US CENTERED. AND WHAT WE FOUND WAS THAT OUR MISSION PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED WORDS LIKE CATALYST AND GLOBAL ECONOMY VERY DIFFICULT TO MEASURE. AND WHAT WE'RE FOCUSED ON IS MEASURING OUR IMPACT.

SO WE TOOK OUR MISSION AND WE MADE IT SOMETHING THAT WE ALL CAN CONSUME AND USE AND UNDERSTAND AND MEASURE.

MARYLAND BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE DRIVES MEANINGFUL, PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT, AND EDUCATION THAT EMPOWER STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TO MEET MARYLAND'S TALENT NEEDS.

SO THERE'S TWO PIECES OF THAT, AND THE TWO PIECES HAVE TO DO WITH A VISION FOR STUDENTS TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

BUT FOR OUR BUSINESSES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.

IT'S REFLECTED IN OUR BOARD GOVERNANCE, OUR BOARD.

LOOKING AT SOME OF OUR EMPLOYERS REPRESENTED.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE LARGEST EMPLOYERS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.

OUR BOARD IS ABOUT A 50/50 SPLIT BETWEEN PRIVATE INDUSTRY AND HIGHER EDUCATION.

WE ALSO HAVE EX OFFICIO OR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD THAT PARTICIPATE THAT COME FROM GOVERNMENT.

AND WE'RE ADVISED BY GOVERNMENT AS WELL. YOU CAN SEE OUR CHAIR WAS THE JUST RETIRED FORMER OFFICE MANAGING PARTNER OF KPMG, CHRISTINA SPELL. WE ALSO HAVE THE DAILY RECORD, A PARTNER IN THROUGHOUT MARYLAND AND A PARTNER WHO HELPS US PRODUCE OUR MAGAZINE WAY TO BE EACH YEAR. SUZANNE FISCHER-HUETTNER FROM THE DAILY RECORD.

AND MANY OF YOU WILL REMEMBER MISS NONA CARROLL, OUR FORMER CHIEF PROGRAM OFFICER, AS WELL AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR, WHO HELPED TO TRANSITION OUR FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TWO YEARS PRIOR WHEN I JOINED NBRT IN 2024.

I'M VERY PLEASED TO INTRODUCE YOU IN THE FUTURE TO LATISHA COATES-YOUNG.

WE DIVIDE AND CONQUER OR SHE'D BE WITH ME TONIGHT.

SHE IS OUR NEW CHIEF PROGRAM OFFICER, AND LATISHA COMES TO US FROM THE BALTIMORE HOMECOMING ORGANIZATION, AS WELL AS OTHER HEALTH CARE CENTERED ORGANIZATIONS, HELPING OUR STUDENTS RECEIVE THE CARE AND COORDINATION OF SERVICES THAT THEY REQUIRE FROM COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS STEM EDUCATION AND SUMMER PROGRAMING.

SO I BELIEVE THAT EXPERIENCE WILL BE VERY RELEVANT HERE IN CAROLINE COUNTY AS WELL.

WE'RE ROUNDED OUT BY CHRIS THORN, OUR CHIEF INFORMATION AND OPERATIONS OFFICER, WHO KEEPS US ON A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND EFFICIENT CYCLE.

NOW YOU GET TO MEET OUR STATEWIDE TEAM, OF WHICH ABBY, OF COURSE, IS A PART.

WE SERVE FIVE DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND WITH THE NEXT GENERATION SCHOLARS GRANT.

THIS IS A GRANT THAT STARTED IN 2017, AND WE'VE BEEN IN OUR FIVE DISTRICTS ALL ALONG, BUT WE'RE NOW IN OUR NINTH YEAR.

SO NINE YEARS IN CAROLINE COUNTY. NOW IT'S VERY EXCITING.

WHAT'S HAPPENED IN THE MEANTIME IS THAT THIS PARTICULAR GRANT WAS MOVED BY A LEGISLATIVE ACTION FROM MSDE TO MHEC IN THIS PRIOR YEAR, AND THE BOARD MAY REMEMBER THAT ONE OF THE LARGEST OUTCOMES IS THE AVAILABILITY FOR NGS STUDENTS TO BECOME PREQUALIFIED AND ACCESS THE GUARANTEED ACCESS GRANT IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND. SO WE ARE VERY FOCUSED ON HELPING OUR STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR AND RECEIVE STATE AID, AS WELL AS OTHER SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAKE A POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION POSSIBLE FOR THEM.

OUR CURRENT CORE PROGRAMS. AND THIS INCLUDES YOU'LL SEE NEXT GENERATION SCHOLARS LEADING THAT OFF.

BUT WE ALSO HAVE A THOUSAND MEMBER STRONG SPEAKERS BUREAU IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.

THIS IS MADE UP OF VOLUNTEERS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE IN ALL LEVELS OF THEIR CAREERS, BUT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE'S LIGHTHOUSE INDUSTRIES AND OTHER PRIORITY INDUSTRIES.

IN THE COMMUNITIES RIGHT HERE IN CAROLINE COUNTY, OUR SPEAKERS BUREAU MEMBERS, APPROXIMATELY 350 TO 400 EACH YEAR, ARE ACTIVE AND GOING INTO CLASSROOMS BESIDE YOUR EDUCATORS, HELPING TO CONNECT WHAT'S BEING TAUGHT IN THE CLASSROOM TO WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AFTER THE COMPLETION OF YOUR DEGREE. AND YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT WHAT'S NEXT.

THEY TALK ABOUT WHAT WORKED FOR THEM AND ALSO WHAT DIDN'T WORK.

WHAT WOULD I HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY? WHAT DID I LEARN? THEY ALSO REINFORCE DURABLE SKILLS. AND SO FOR OUR STUDENTS, IT'S A CONNECTION TO LEARNING.

BUT IT CONTINUES ON BECAUSE THAT SAME SPEAKERS BUREAU MAKES POSSIBLE MANY OF OUR CAREER TOURS AND OUR CAREER CONNECTIONS ACROSS THE STATE.

SO CAROLINE COUNTY STUDENTS ARE ALSO ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN TOURS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MARYLAND BECAUSE OF OUR CONNECTIONS TO BUSINESS AND THEN STUDENT

AMBASSADORS, MANY OF YOUR STUDENTS HERE IN CAROLINE COUNTY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR AND BECOME A LEADER AMONG THEIR PEERS, HELPING OTHER STUDENTS UNDERSTAND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, MAKE CONNECTIONS FROM SCHOOL AGAIN TO REAL LIFE, AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO NOT ONLY SUCCEED IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT TO CONSIDER THAT SUCCESS IN WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NEXT IN COLLEGE.

IF THAT BE THE PATHWAY IN THE SERVICE AND CIVIC INNOVATION GAP YEAR PROGRAM, IF THEY'RE INTERESTED IN MILITARY IN DIRECT JOB.

SO OUR STUDENT AMBASSADORS, WE'RE VERY PROUD OF AND MANY OF THEM, YES, ARE BEING RECOGNIZED WITH OUR EMERGING SCHOLARS AS WELL.

FINALLY, OUR CURRENT CORE PROGRAMS INCLUDE WAY TO BE.

I ALREADY MENTIONED OUR MAGAZINE, AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COPY OF IT.

WE PUBLISHED BOTH THE SPANISH TRANSLATION AND ENGLISH TRANSLATION IN ONE MAGAZINE, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO REACH ALL CAREGIVERS, FAMILY MEMBERS, SIBLINGS, EVERYONE WHERE THEY ARE SO THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO HANDLE.

IF YOU REMEMBER THE YEAR PRIOR, WE HAD TWO DIFFERENT EDITIONS.

ONE WAS ONLY 7,000 COPIES, THE OTHER ONE WAS 55,000 COPIES.

FOR OTHER GROUPS, INCLUDING OUR OTHER NONPROFIT PROVIDERS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND, THEY'RE ABLE TO ALSO GIVE US A CALL AND LET US KNOW IF THEY'D LIKE TO UTILIZE THIS FREE PUBLIC RESOURCE. BUT OVERALL, I WANT YOU TO LOOK AT THE NUMBERS FOR OUR STATEWIDE SERVICE FOR THE FIVE DISTRICTS WE SERVE, INCLUDING ALLEGHANY, CAROLINE, DORCHESTER, KENT AND WICOMICO COUNTIES.

CAROLINE IS A LITTLE SPECIAL FOR US. WE SERVE TWO HIGH SCHOOLS IN CAROLINE.

WE DON'T GET THAT IN ALL OF OUR OTHER DISTRICTS, SO WE REALLY GET TO MAKE THAT BROAD IMPACT.

AND OF COURSE, THERE'S SO MANY STUDENTS THAT ARE INTERACTING ACROSS THOSE HIGH SCHOOLS. SO WE'RE THRILLED ABOUT THAT. OUR 10TH GRADE NGS STUDENTS NUMBERED 758 ACROSS THE STATE LAST YEAR. WE SERVED 682 11TH GRADERS AND 612 SENIORS.

OUR SPEAKERS BUREAU, THERE'S OUR STATS. YOU CAN SEE THAT THAT GROUP OF SPEAKERS LAST YEAR, THREE, 327 OF 1000 ACTIVE MEMBERS WERE ENGAGED IN 630 SESSIONS, LOGGING 21 693 ENGAGEMENTS IN ALL 24 SCHOOL DISTRICTS, 50 SCHOOLS.

AND OF COURSE, IT CONTINUES ON WHEN THEY'RE OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL TO INVITING THEIR STUDENTS FOR SHADOW DAYS, MENTORING ALL KINDS OF EXPERIENCES, AGAIN LINKED TO BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY.

OUR STUDENT AMBASSADORS, WE HAVE 50 STUDENTS STATEWIDE.

THEY ARE MANAGED BY OUR ABBEY IN ALLEGANY COUNTY.

SO THAT WHEN HE SNOWED IN, HE GETS TO TALK TO THE WHOLE STATE, BECAUSE LATELY, THAT'S A THING.

AND SO THAT'S A VERY EXCITING GROUP. AGAIN, PEER TO PEER.

AND THESE ARE OUR FUTURE LEADERS. AND FINALLY, I JUST MENTIONED WAY TO BE 55,000 COPIES WERE DISTRIBUTED IN THIS PAST YEAR, AND WE EXPECT TO DO THAT AGAIN IN 2026. SO I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO ABBY, WHO AGAIN IS THE REAL STAR OF THE SHOW HERE.

IT'S NOT A TYPO. A THIRD OF THEM ARE IN CAROLINE.

WE ARE BY FAR THE BIGGEST OF THE FIVE DISTRICTS THAT NBRT SERVES IN TERMS OF QUALIFYING STUDENTS.

WE ARE THE ONLY DISTRICT THAT SERVES FOR THE NEXT GEN PROGRAM THAT DOES MULTIPLE SCHOOLS IN THE SAME DISTRICT.

IT'S A BLESSING AND A CURSE. SO IT IS DEFINITELY ALL ABOUT SCALE HERE AT CAROLINE COUNTY.

THERE'S SO MANY GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTNERSHIP WITH ALL THE RESOURCES WE HAVE.

BUT IT CAN BE IT CAN BE A LOT AT THE SAME TIME.

BUT I REALLY WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT OTHER BIG NUMBER ON THE SCREEN.

IT IS NOT A TYPO EITHER. LAST YEAR IN THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR, WE WERE ABLE TO REPORT OVER $2 MILLION OF FINANCIAL AID THAT WAS AWARDED TO OUR GRADUATING CAROLINE SENIORS IN THE NEXT GEN PROGRAM. THAT IS UP FROM IF YOU SEE THAT LITTLE ASTERISK DOWN THERE $691,000 THAT I WAS ABLE TO REPORT

LAST SCHOOL YEAR AT THE BOARD MEETING. I WILL MENTION THAT THAT IS NOT AS MUCH OF A DRASTIC INCREASE IN STUDENT ABILITY OR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.

THERE ARE AMAZING STUDENTS IN BOTH CLASSES. BUT IT'S JUST MUCH BETTER REPORTING, MUCH BETTER COLLABORATION, ESPECIALLY WITH OUR GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE TO SHOUT OUT JEN REED, THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR AT COLONEL RICHARDSON.

SHE REALLY HELPED WITH A LOT OF THIS DATA, ESPECIALLY OBVIOUSLY FOR OUR CURRENT STUDENTS AND THE ENTIRE GUIDANCE TEAM AT NORTH AS WELL.

A LOT OF GREAT COLLABORATION AND RECORD KEEPING TO BE ABLE TO REPORT THESE REALLY IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS THAT AGAIN, THESE NUMBERS GO INTO OUR GRANT APPLICATIONS TO THE STATE, AND THE BETTER WE CAN REPORT FOR OUTCOMES HERE, THE BETTER WE CAN SERVE OUR STUDENTS THE NEXT GRANT YEAR.

SO. I'M JUST GOING TO PUT THAT IN PERSPECTIVE. ACROSS THE STATE, OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACHIEVED $5.4 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS IN THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR.

SO A LARGE CHUNK OF THAT ARE YOUR CAROLINE YES. THAT'S GREAT. YEAH. GOING INTO SOME OF THE GREAT THINGS WE DID LAST YEAR NEXT GENERATION SCHOLARS REALLY FOCUSES ON COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS.

SO SOME OF THE BIGGEST THINGS WE DO ARE OUR COLLEGE VISITS AND OUR CAREER TOURS.

SO FOR OUR CAREER TOURS WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES.

OBVIOUSLY LAST YEAR WE DID THE HYATT REGENCY DOWN IN CAMBRIDGE AND CHOPTANK ELECTRIC RIGHT HERE IN DENTON.

WE TOOK ALMOST A COMBINED 80 STUDENTS ON THOSE TWO TRIPS.

A LOT OF GREAT PARTNERS, PARTNERSHIPS WITH WITH CC-TC AND GETTING CC-T STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THOSE SPECIFIC INDUSTRIES.

YOU CAN SEE WE TOOK CHEF IN THE CULINARY DEPARTMENT TO HYATT, AND THEY GAVE US A REALLY AMAZING TOUR OF THEIR LIKE COMMERCIAL KITCHENS BACK THERE AND EVERYTHING THAT GOES INTO ALL OF THE FOOD PREPARATION AND ALL THEIR RESTAURANTS.

AND HOW BIG OF A UNDERTAKING THAT IS. SO THAT WAS A REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE.

AND THEN WORKING WITH LIKE OUR MANUFACTURING, OUR AUTO CLASSES, ALL OF THE GREAT OPPORTUNITIES THERE AND CONNECTING THEM WITH BUSINESSES. SO THOSE ARE REALLY AMAZING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WHO MAY BE MORE INTERESTED IN GOING RIGHT INTO CAREERS RATHER THAN GOING INTO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE. AND IF THEY ARE INTERESTED IN FOUR YEAR COLLEGE, GUESS WHAT? WE HAVE COLLEGE VISITS TOO. ONE OF THE BIG THINGS I LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT FOR OUR COLLEGE VISITS HERE FOR THE NEXT GEN PROGRAM IS WE FOCUS EXCLUSIVELY ON MARYLAND COLLEGES. SO AS SHARON MENTIONED, A BIG PART OF OUR MISSION IS CONNECTING STUDENTS WITH THAT GUARANTEED ACCESS GRANT, WHICH IS SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDENTS IN MARYLAND THAT QUALIFY FINANCIALLY.

AND THEY HAVE TO GO TO A SCHOOL IN MARYLAND, WHETHER THAT BE A TWO YEAR OR A FOUR YEAR.

SO WE OBVIOUSLY ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO GO WHEREVER THEY WANT TO GO.

THAT IS FEASIBLE FOR THEM. BUT WE REALLY LIKE TO PUSH THOSE IN-STATE OPPORTUNITIES BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE ASSISTANCE IS.

FOR A LOT OF THESE KIDS WHO NEED THAT.

SO LAST YEAR WE WENT TO TOWSON UNIVERSITY WITH A GREAT GROUP THERE.

WE ALSO WENT TO SALISBURY. YES. THIS YEAR WE WILL SEE COLLEGE PARK LATER THIS SPRING. SO MORE OF OUR WE DO A LOT OF REALLY COOL MULTI-DISTRICT OR MULTI-COUNTY ACTIVITIES WHERE WE GET TO TEAM UP WITH SOME OF MY COUNTERPARTS IN OTHER COUNTIES, OR WE ALL GET TOGETHER AS A GROUP AND DO KIND OF PROGRAM WIDE ACTIVITIES.

SO THE FIRST ONE LISTED IS COLLEGE BOOT CAMP THAT WE HOSTED AT WASHINGTON COLLEGE.

THAT WAS A COLLABORATION WITH OUR KENT COUNTY NEXT GENERATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM.

AND THAT WAS A REALLY GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A GROUP OF CAROLINE STUDENTS.

AND THEY GOT TO GO TO WASHINGTON FOR TWO DAYS.

YOU KNOW, THE DINING HALL TALK WITH STUDENTS AT WASHINGTON, STAFF AT WASHINGTON.

WE DO WORKSHOPS ON ESSAY WRITING, SCHOLARSHIPS.

WE DO A FINANCIAL AID BINGO. VERY FUN, VERY FUN EXPERIENCE.

AND I'M REALLY HAPPY THAT WE GET TO PARTNER WITH KENT COUNTY AND TAKE THESE STUDENTS UP TO WASHINGTON COLLEGE, WHERE THEY HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE ON A FOUR YEAR CAMPUS.

NEXT GEN, NEXT LEVEL. WE HOLD THAT EVERY YEAR IN THE SUMMER.

IT IS OUR SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM THAT WE HOLD FOR OUR GRADUATING SENIORS.

LAST YEAR WE TOOK FOUR CAROLINE STUDENTS, AND I ALSO HAVE OUR LOVELY SUMMER INTERN FROM LAST YEAR, TARYN WATERS, WHO IS A GRADUATE FROM COLONEL RICHARDSON IF ANY OF YOU KNOW HER.

BUT NEXT GEN NEXT LEVEL IS ANOTHER GREAT SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM WHERE STUDENTS GET TO GO.

WE WENT TO LOYOLA LAST YEAR. THEY GET TO GO ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS.

IT IS AN OVERNIGHT, SO THEY GET TO SLEEP IN THE DORMS. THEY GET TO EAT THE DINING HALLS. WE DO A LOT OF GREAT WORKSHOPS WITH STUDENT INTERNS, LOVE REALLY AMAZING WORKSHOPS ON TIME MANAGEMENT,

FINANCIAL LITERACY, MENTAL HEALTH, ALL THIS GREAT STUFF.

THEY GOT TO NETWORK WITH MEMBERS OF OUR SPEAKERS BUREAU.

SO IT WAS A REALLY GREAT OPPORTUNITY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE SOME CAROLINE STUDENTS TO.

AND THEN YOUTH CONGRESS DAY, WHICH IS COMING UP, THAT IS OUR FEBRUARY EVENT.

SO WE ACTUALLY GET TO TAKE STUDENTS TO THE MARYLAND STATE HOUSE. WE TOOK A GROUP OF FIVE STUDENTS LAST YEAR.

THIS YEAR WE WERE SHOOTING FOR TEN. SO HOPEFULLY WE CAN DOUBLE OUR NUMBERS.

AND THAT EVENT ACTUALLY IS A DOUBLE HEADER WITH OUR 24 AWARDS.

SO WE SPEND PART OF THE DAY AT THE STATE HOUSE.

WE DO TOURS OF THE STATE HOUSE. LAST YEAR IT WAS ACTUALLY STATE OF THE STATE THAT WE WENT TO THE STATE HOUSE.

IT WAS A LITTLE CHAOTIC, BUT STILL A REALLY COOL EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WHEN IT'S NOT STATE OF THE STATE, THEY GET TO ACTUALLY GO INTO THE GALLERY AND SEE KIND OF THE FLOOR OF THE STATE HOUSE.

SHE WAS THERE WITH A GROUP OF HER PEERS. THAT WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE HAD THE SPANISH TRANSLATED WAY TO BE, AND ACTUALLY HER AND A GROUP OF HER CLASSMATES AT OUR ANNUAL MEETING SPOKE TO A MEMBER OF THE DAILY RECORD AND TALK TO THEM ABOUT THIS TRANSLATION AND HOW COOL IT WAS.

AND THAT WAS JUST A REALLY SPECIAL MOMENT, AND IT REALLY SHOWS THE KIND OF IMPACT THAT WE HAVE.

AND I WAS SO EXCITED FOR THE SPANISH EDITION OF WAY TO BE THIS YEAR.

I HAVE A WHOLE SLIDE ABOUT IT, I THINK COMING UP.

OH, THERE IT IS. SO OBVIOUSLY. SEE, THIS YEAR OUR WAY TO BE LAST YEAR WAS OUR INAUGURAL OH MY GOODNESS INAUGURAL SPANISH VERSION. BUT THEY WERE TWO SEPARATE COPIES THIS YEAR THEY ARE COMBINED.

WHEN WE HAD THE SPANISH EDITION, I WAS LIKE, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH, BUT YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT MAYBE KIDS MIGHT NOT BE COMFORTABLE ASKING FOR A SPANISH VERSION, OR ALSO MAYBE THEY'RE FINE WITH THE SPANISH VERSION, BUT MOM AND DAD AT HOME MIGHT NOT HAVE A STRONG ENGLISH.

NOW THEY CAN ACCESS THIS RESOURCE. SO I LOVED IT SO MUCH.

WE TOOK A GROUP OF SEVEN STUDENTS FROM THE ENGINEERING CLASSES, WENT TO THE ENGINEERS CLUB IN BALTIMORE.

BEAUTIFUL VENUE. ALL PROPS TO SHARON FOR SECURING THAT.

THEY GOT TO MEET WITH DIFFERENT ENGINEERING FIRMS FROM ACROSS THE STATE.

WE HAD OUR ANNUAL MEETING. TON OF FUN. WE HAVE WHAT I LIKE TO CALL THIS.

THE WEEK FORMERLY KNOWN AS IMPACT WEEK. OUR POST-SECONDARY SUCCESS CAMPAIGN WEEK, WHICH IS REALLY COLLABORATING, ESPECIALLY WITH OUR GUIDANCE DEPARTMENTS AND REALLY FOCUSING ON GETTING OUR SENIORS, GETTING THEIR APPLICATIONS IN, GETTING THEIR APPLICATIONS STARTED, GETTING THEIR COLLEGE SEARCH STARTED GETTING ANY SCHOLARSHIPS THAT THEY'VE STARTED ON.

SO YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE NUMBERS THAT WE HAD AT THE CONCLUSION OF THAT OCTOBER CAMPAIGN, WE HAD OVER 400 SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS AT NORTH CAROLINE AND OVER 200 SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS AT COLONEL RICHARDSON.

I WILL SAY THOSE ARE SUBMITTED. THOSE AREN'T LIKE, OH, I STARTED ON COMMON APP, BUT I DIDN'T ACTUALLY FEEL ANYTHING OUT.

THOSE ARE DONE AND SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS, WHICH I THINK ARE REALLY GREAT NUMBERS.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THAT'S NOVEMBER 1ST. THAT IS EARLY ACTION.

SO IT REALLY SHOWS HOW PREPARED A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS ARE AND HOW EXCITED THEY ARE ABOUT FOUR YEAR OPPORTUNITIES.

WE HAD OUR [INAUDIBLE] COLLEGE FAIR AND OUR JOHNS HOPKINS TRIPS ALREADY IN THE FALL.

WE TOOK ABOUT 20 STUDENTS. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WE HAD GONE TO JOHNS HOPKINS AS NBRT.

SO IT WAS A REALLY GREAT OPPORTUNITY. AND BEING ABLE TO CONNECT THESE STUDENTS WITH THAT CALIBER OF SCHOOL IS ALWAYS EXCITING.

WE HAD THE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY ON SITE ADMISSION DAY.

I THINK THAT 33 NUMBER IS FROM THE NORTH HIGH DAY, BUT THEY DID IT AT BOTH SCHOOLS, AND BOTH SCHOOLS HAD A GREAT NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO GOT THAT AUTOMATIC ACCEPTANCE INTO SALISBURY. AND THAT'S ALWAYS A GREAT THING TO CELEBRATE OUR FINANCIAL AID NIGHTS, WE HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE FROM CHESAPEAKE COME IN AND GIVE A GREAT PRESENTATION ON THE FAFSA, FINANCIAL AID IN GENERAL. SO WE HAD TWO OF THOSE NIGHTS IN DECEMBER, AND I BELIEVE THAT THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT AT NORTH HAS SOME EXTRA FINANCIAL AID LIKE SESSIONS COMING UP. SO WE ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE THAT CONTINUOUS HELP WITH SCHOLARSHIPS, WITH FINANCIAL AID. I KNOW JEFF MENTIONED A WHILE AGO THE [INAUDIBLE] SCHOLARSHIPS THING.

YEAH, ACTUALLY IT'S NOT JUST ME. IT WAS LESLIE PODLASZEWSKI FROM COLONEL TEAMED UP FOR THAT.

THAT WAS A REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE AND ANOTHER GREAT WAY TO HELP KIDS WITH THOSE POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES.

AND THEN FINALLY, THE CLASS OF 2028 ARE INCOMING 10TH GRADERS.

WE DO RUN 10TH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS IN THE NEXT GEN PROGRAM HERE IN CAROLINE.

SO WE HAVE 206 STUDENTS IN THAT COHORT. SO PLENTY OF STUDENTS TO HELP.

IT'S ALWAYS EXCITING. AND THAT IS IT FOR OUR UPDATE.

AND IT'S AWESOME TO SEE THE IMPACT OF BOTH. ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP SUPPORT THOSE KIND OF CONVERSATIONS, HOWEVER THEY MAY GO A LITTLE EASIER ON THE STATE LEVEL THAN THE FEDERAL LEVEL, BUT IT STILL TAKES A VOICE NO MATTER WHAT WHERE WE CAN TO HELP MAKE SURE WE SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS BECAUSE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AND AGAIN, IT'LL TIE INTO MS.

BUT MAKING SURE STUDENTS HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES, IS VITAL.

I MEAN, SORRY, I'M SOAPBOXING THE LAST POINT.

JUST REALLY THRILLED TO SEE IN THE PRESENTATION ALSO FROM TRIO THAT STUDENTS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS AS WELL.

THEY'RE FINDING OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PROGRAMS THAT SOMETIMES OUR STUDENTS DON'T THINK ABOUT AT 17 THAT LEAD THEM TO GETTING A REALLY NICE PAYCHECK AT 18, AS OPPOSED TO $100,000 OF DEBT BEFORE GETTING A PAYCHECK.

THAT'S PROBABLY ABOUT THE SAME SIZE. AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW DO YOU PAY OFF THE DEBT.

IT'S JUST SUCH A FANTASTIC BOTH PROGRAMS WE COULDN'T DO WITHOUT AND JUST LOVE THE WORK AND THE PARTNERSHIP WITH MS. MCCORMICK'S TEAM AS WELL. AND THAT'S ACTUALLY WHAT I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY.

FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT ADDING AN ADOBE CREDENTIAL INTO SOME OF OUR ART CLASSES, AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT ADDING SOME OTHER INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS INTO SCIENCES AND PE CLASSES.

TO REALLY GIVE US THAT OPPORTUNITY TO THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES YOU HAVE FOR STUDENTS TO EARN AN INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIAL, THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE TO GET TO 45% OR HIGHER, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT, AS DOCTOR SIMMONS JUST SHARED, A STUDENT WHO HAS THAT OPPORTUNITY AT 17 HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN A SALARY AT 18.

AT THIS POINT, THIS CHART SHOWS MSDE'S PROPOSED PORTIONS AND SECTIONS FOR WHAT THE SIX YEAR PLAN IS TO HIGHLIGHT, YOU SEE, THAT THERE ARE AREAS JUST OF A STUDENT PROFILE OF STUDENTS SELF-AWARENESS AND STUDENTS GOALS.

WE ALREADY ARE USING A PLATFORM CALLED NAVIANCE FOR SOME OF THIS INFORMATION.

WE DO CAREER ASSESSMENTS NOT ONLY SCHOOL COUNSELORS, BUT CAREER COACHES AND SOME OF OUR PARTNERS THAT YOU JUST SAW HERE TODAY ARE ACCESSING NAVIANCE. AND STUDENTS ARE DOING CAREER ASSESSMENTS.

WE'RE USING THAT DATA TO INFORM OUR CAREER COACHING AS WELL AS OUR BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS.

BUT THESE ARE THE SECTIONS THAT ARE PROPOSED CURRENTLY.

WE ARE LOOKING TO ADD ADDITIONAL NAVIANCE ITEMS NOT ONLY THIS YEAR, BUT NEXT YEAR.

WE HAVE WORKED INCREDIBLY HARD COLLABORATIVELY THROUGH CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO HAVE OUR STUDENTS CREATE THEIR ENTIRE FOUR YEAR COURSE SELECTION WITHIN NAVIANCE IN EIGHTH GRADE SO THAT NOT ONLY CAN THEY PLAN OUT WHAT THEIR NEXT FOUR YEARS LOOK LIKE, THEY CAN HAVE MULTIPLE PLANS WITHIN NAVIANCE.

SO IF THEY SAY, I'M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO DO ALL DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES OR IF I WANT TO BE A CCTC STUDENT, THEY CAN HAVE MULTIPLE PLANS WITHIN NAVIANCE TO SEE HOW THEIR SCHEDULE COULD ACTUALLY SHAKE OUT FOR THOSE FOUR YEARS.

WE ARE I'M GOING TO SAY JUST THIS CLOSE, AND WE ARE HOPING THAT AT THE FEBRUARY MARCH TIME FRAME, WHEN STUDENTS BEGIN TO CHOOSE THEIR CLASSES FOR NEXT YEAR, THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE THIS ROLLED OUT.

IT'S BEEN SUPER EXCITING AND A VERY COLLABORATIVE EFFORT AMONG DIVISIONS OF CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

IN ADDITION THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY WITHIN NAVIANCE FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE A LOOK AND CHOOSE A POST-SECONDARY PLAN.

MSDE IS HOSTING A VERY LARGE CONVENING AT THE END OF JANUARY, WHERE WE HOPE TO GAIN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE SIX YEAR PLAN TO ENSURE THAT OUR PLANS ARE NOT ONLY ACCURATE AND THOROUGH, BUT MEANINGFUL TO OUR STUDENTS.

SO STAY TUNED. THIS IS WHERE WE ARE NOW WITH THIS MORE TO COME.

SO NOW TO GET A LITTLE BIT MORE SPECIFICALLY INTO THE UPDATES AND CHANGES WITH CTE IN GENERAL.

CURRENTLY, CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAS 14 CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PATHWAYS FOR STUDENTS, AND THEY ARE SHOWN HERE FOR YOUR REFERENCE. THESE ARE NOT ONLY AT OUR CCTC TECH CENTER BUILDING, BUT THERE ARE PROGRAMS AT BOTH OF THE HOMESCHOOLS COLONEL RICHARDSON AND NORTH CAROLINA.

SO THIS SCHOOL YEAR THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTED NEW CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS OF STUDIES FOR ALL CTE PROGRAMS ACROSS THE STATE. THIS WILL HELP ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ACROSS THE STATE HAVE ACCESS TO THE SAME STANDARDS.

SO IF I AM IN AN AUTOMOTIVE CLASS IN CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND I GO TO AN AUTOMOTIVE TRANSFER SCHOOL SYSTEMS AND I GO TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY, OUR STANDARDS WILL BE THE SAME. THAT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ENGLISH TEN FROM CAROLINE COUNTY TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY.

THOSE STANDARDS REMAIN THE SAME. SO THEY REALLY HAVE FOCUSED THEM TO BE STATEWIDE STANDARDS.

WITH THIS NEW ADOPTION, THERE DOES COME A MULTITUDE OF CHANGES.

YOU SEE THAT THE STATE BOARD DID ADOPT THESE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2025, AND THESE NEW STANDARDS WILL BE EFFECTIVE THE 27-28 SCHOOL YEAR. SO THE FIRST CHANGE IS THAT MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HAS ROLLED OUT WHAT THEY ARE CALLING A FLEX MODEL.

THIS IS WHERE STUDENTS KIND OF AND MSDE IS CALLING THIS THIS.

AND IT DOES MAKE SENSE A CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE TO COMPLETE A CTE PATHWAY.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE EXAMPLE ON THE SCREEN OR IN FRONT OF YOU, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE THE FIRST TWO COURSES IN CTE SEQUENCE AND THEN CHOOSE WHAT THEY DO FOR THE THIRD AND FOURTH CLASS.

THE OPTIONS THAT STUDENTS HAVE ARE TO CONTINUE AND TAKE THE THIRD AND FOURTH CLASS IN THE PATHWAY, OR THEY CAN CHOOSE TO TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES THAT ALIGN TO THEIR PATHWAY.

OR THEY CAN CHOOSE TO DO AN APPRENTICESHIP. SO AGAIN, TAKE THE FIRST TWO CLASSES OF A PATHWAY AND THEN TAKE AND COMPLETE AN APPRENTICESHIP THAT ALIGNS. AND THEN IN ADDITION, STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE A WORK BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITY.

CURRENTLY IN CAROLINE COUNTY WE CALL THAT CAREER INTERNSHIP.

WE HAVE MADE SOME UPDATES TO THAT THIS YEAR, AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO UPDATE THAT AS WE GO MORE TOWARDS THE STATE STANDARDS OF WORK BASED LEARNING CAREER INTERNSHIP.

CURRENTLY WE'RE WORKING WITH CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE.

WE WORK WITH THEM FOR NUMEROUS THINGS. BUT ONE THING IS WE CURRENTLY HAVE AN ARTICULATION AGREEMENT AS TO IF OUR STUDENTS COMPLETE THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PROGRAM. THEY CAN HAVE CERTAIN CLASSES AT CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE WAIVED AND GO INTO ANOTHER LEVEL CLASS. SO WITH THIS NEW MODEL OF STUDENTS ONLY HAVING TO DO COURSE ONE AND THEN COURSE TWO, WE ARE HAVING TO LOOK AT EACH OF OUR ARTICULATED AGREEMENTS WITH CHESAPEAKE FOR EVERY PROGRAM, BECAUSE STUDENTS WILL NOT HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THAT ENTIRE PROGRAM IF THEY CHOOSE TO GO THE DUAL ENROLLMENT ROUTE.

IT IS ALSO TO SAY IT COULD BE, FOR EXAMPLE, OUR AG, OUR CASE AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE.

IF THEY WERE TO TAKE THE FIRST TWO CLASSES THERE, THEY COULD POTENTIALLY TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT BIOLOGY, BECAUSE THERE IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THOSE TWO THE DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSE AND THE PATHWAY.

WE ARE STILL AWAITING GUIDANCE TO SEE WHO MAKES THAT FINAL DECISION AS TO WHAT ALIGNS.

AGAIN, JANUARY 30TH IS A VERY LARGE CONVENING, AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO A LOT OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

BUT WE ARE LOOKING AT THE ARTICULATION AGREEMENT AND THE POTENTIAL COURSES THAT ALIGN FOR COURSE THREE AND COURSE FOUR WITH CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE.

USING PERKINS FUNDS ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I ADDED A WORK BASED LEARNING NAVIGATOR POSITION USING THE GRANT FUNDING.

THAT HAS REALLY GIVEN US AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE OUR BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP AND TO UPDATE OUR CAREER INTERNSHIP.

WE HAVE THROUGH THIS FLEX MODEL, THE CAREER INTERNSHIP WILL BE VERY COURSE ORIENTED, SO STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE COURSE WORK ALONG WITH THEIR HOURS AT A BUSINESS THAT MUST TIE TO THEIR CAREER INTEREST OR PATHWAY. SO WE HAVE MADE A SLIGHT SHIFT IN THIS 2526 SCHOOL YEAR THAT THAT IS A SIMILAR MODEL TO WHAT WE ARE DOING WITH OUR CURRENT 11TH GRADE, SO THAT WE WILL ROLL THAT NEXT YEAR INTO 11TH AND 12TH GRADE.

SO SMALL STEPS TO GET TO THAT LARGE GOAL FOR THE 27-28 SCHOOL YEAR.

THAT WORK BASED LEARNING NAVIGATOR POSITION IS ALSO GAUGING STUDENT INTEREST AND RECRUITING AND MONITORING THE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE CAREER INTERNSHIPS CURRENTLY.

ANOTHER OPTION THAT IS NOT REALLY ON THIS CHART RIGHT NOW.

BUT IS SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE A SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE IS TRULY A STUDENT RUN BUSINESS THAT WOULD OPERATE WITHIN OUR SCHOOL PROVIDING GOODS OR SERVICES. WE IN CAROLINE COUNTY ALREADY DO A SMALL VERSION OF THIS, BUT THE VERSION THAT TRULY WILL COUNT TOWARDS THE FLEX MODEL IS AN ESCALATED VERSION.

SO RIGHT NOW, EXCUSE ME. RIGHT NOW, OUR CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS, THEY DO BUILD SHEDS, THEY DO BUILD BENCHES AND CHICKEN COOPS, ETC. AND THEY SELL THEM.

IT IS A SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE. IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED AS A SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISE IN THIS FLEX MODEL, IT CANNOT BE DONE DURING THE STUDENT'S ACTUAL CLASS TIME.

SO IT CANNOT BE INCLUDED IN ONE OF THEIR FOUR COURSES.

IT WOULD BE IN ADDITION. SO AGAIN WE'RE GAINING MORE INFORMATION.

MSDE I HAVE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT. OUR DIVISION OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION AT MSDE HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB OF KEEPING US ABREAST OF WHAT IS GOING ON, THE CHANGES THAT ARE HAPPENING.

I'VE BEEN INCLUDED IN SEVERAL WORK GROUPS. IT ALSO GIVES ME KIND OF THAT INSIDE INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE.

BUT I ALSO FIND THAT VERY BENEFICIAL. SOME OF THIS IS BEING PILOTED THROUGHOUT MARYLAND NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

AND ONE UPPER SHORE SCHOOL SYSTEM TALBOT COUNTY WILL BE IN THAT PILOT.

AND I TALKED TO MSDE TODAY AND THEY SAID, DON'T BE SAD THAT YOU'RE NOT THE PILOT.

I SAID, ACTUALLY, I'M VERY GLAD, BUT THE FIVE OF US UPPER SHORE WORK EXTREMELY WELL TOGETHER, THAT IF THEY ARE THE PILOT, WE'RE GOING TO BE GETTING THE SAME INFORMATION AND JUST NOT BE A PART OF THE PILOT.

SO I'M GOOD WITH THAT. SO WITH ALL OF THESE UPCOMING CHANGES, I'VE CREATED A PLAN WITH GOALS AND ACTIVITIES AND TASKS SO THAT WE ARE TRULY PREPARED FOR THE 27-28 SCHOOL YEAR.

HEFTY GOAL BUT BY THE END OF THE 26-27 SCHOOL YEAR, WE WILL BE 100% PREPARED TO LAUNCH THE NEWLY APPROVED CTE PROGRAMS IN THE 27-28 SCHOOL YEAR. ALL CTE PROGRAMS OF STUDY WILL BE SHIFTING TO NEW COURSES WITH NEW STANDARDS. SO SOME OF THE KEY ACTION STEPS ARE HERE.

AND I'LL TOUCH ON A FEW OF THEM. IN THE NEW PROGRAMS OF STUDY EACH COURSE IS A PREREQUISITE TO THE NEXT COURSE. SO WITH THAT, JUST TO BE CLEAR, YOU CANNOT TAKE COURSE TWO UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED COURSE ONE. SO WITH OUR CURRENT STRUCTURE OF COURSES AT CCTC.

WE GROUP TOGETHER MULTIPLE COURSES, SO STUDENTS ARE THERE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WHERE WE GROUP TOGETHER

SO OBVIOUSLY THAT IS A BIG TASK TO CHANGE THE MASTER SCHEDULE.

HOWEVER, THAT IS ONE KEY ACTION THAT MAY NEED, MAY NEED TO TAKE PLACE.

WE ALSO HAVE MANY PROGRAMS WHERE OUR STANDARDS ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE.

SO I MENTIONED AUTOMOTIVE EARLIER. AUTOMOTIVE.

THE STANDARDS ARE NOT CHANGING. SOME OF THE SEQUENCE AND THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE THAT WE TEACH THEM IN MIGHT CHANGE, BUT THE TEACHERS ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE TO LEARN A NEW CURRICULUM.

THEY ARE STILL GOING TO GIVE THE SAME AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE OF EXCELLENCE ASE INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIAL.

SO THERE ARE SOME THAT ARE NOT CHANGING. AND THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME THAT ARE GOING TO BE A MUCH HEAVIER LIFT.

SO FOR EXAMPLE, OUR COMPUTER SCIENCE IS CURRENTLY A SEMI GENERIC COMPUTER SCIENCE PATHWAY.

THAT IS NOT AN OPTION IN THE NEW PROGRAMS OF STUDY.

SO WE AS A DISTRICT NEED TO DECIDE ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A PATHWAY OF PROGRAMING, A PATHWAY OF NETWORKING, OR A PATHWAY OF CYBER SECURITY, NO LONGER A GENERIC.

SO THAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE SIGNIFICANT SHIFTS THAT WILL HAPPEN.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS OUR ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PROGRAM.

CURRENTLY, OUR ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PROGRAM IS A LOCALLY DESIGNED PROGRAM.

AND THEY ARE MSDE IS NO LONGER GOING TO ALLOW LOCALLY DEVELOPED PROGRAMS. WE HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM THE STATE PROGRAMS. AND THERE IS CURRENTLY NO WOOD MANUFACTURING STATE APPROVED PROGRAM. THERE IS A METAL MANUFACTURING HOWEVER, THAT'S NOT NECESSARILY NEEDED IN OUR AREA NOT NECESSARILY WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE INTERESTED IN, ETCETERA.

SO WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT THE DATA TO SEE WHAT PROGRAM WE CAN TRANSITION TO.

I HAVE DONE FOCUS GROUPS WITH STUDENTS AS IT RELATES TO COMPUTER SCIENCE.

I'VE PULLED THE COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS FROM BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS GAVE THEM INFORMATION ABOUT ALL OF THE THREE PROGRAMS ALONG WITH OUR CAREER COACH, HIGH SCHOOL CAREER COACH, MR. GOWAN, AND GAVE THEM A SURVEY JUST TO GAUGE THEIR INTEREST.

IT MIGHT NOT IMPACT THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE CURRENTLY IN THE PROGRAM, BUT I WANTED STUDENT INPUT AS WELL AS BUSINESS AND STAFF INPUT. SO WITH EACH OF THESE EXAMPLES, YOU SEE THAT THERE IS GOING TO BE NEW MATERIALS, NEW TEXTBOOKS, TRAINING, A LOT THAT WILL NEED TO HAPPEN BETWEEN NOW AND THE 27-28 SCHOOL YEAR.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT SANDY, BARRY AND I ARE GOING TO BE BEST FRIENDS BECAUSE ALL OF THESE CHANGES WILL NEED TO BE COMMUNICATED TO ALL OF OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

AND SO YOU SEE HERE A LIST OF BOTH OUR INTERNAL AND OUR EXTERNAL PARTNERS THAT ARE TRULY GOING TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THIS TRANSITION.

AND I WILL SHARE A LITTLE BIT LATER MY IDEA OF THAT.

WITH ANY CHANGE COMES A FINANCIAL IMPACT. AT THIS TIME, I DO NOT KNOW EXACT COSTS.

BUT WE KNOW THAT SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT ARE GOING TO BE NEEDED WOULD BE TEXTBOOKS, MARKETING MATERIALS, POTENTIALLY NEW EQUIPMENT, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR STAFF.

INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

SO I CAN'T JUST SAY THIS IS A GOOD CREDENTIAL FOR OUR STUDENTS TO TAKE.

IT HAS TO BE ON AN APPROVED LIST BY MSDE. THESE CREDENTIALS CAN COST ANYWHERE FROM $20 TO $300 PER STUDENT. AND THERE IS TO BE NO COST TO THE STUDENTS.

WE DO HAVE OUR PERKINS FIVE GRANT. AND I HAVE TO SAY, THANKFULLY, MSDE DID INCREASE SEVERAL DISTRICTS FUNDING TWO YEARS AGO TO A BASE OF NOBODY IN THE STATE CAN BE LOWER THAN THIS AMOUNT.

THAT DID ALLOW US TO UPDATE SOME EQUIPMENT THAT WE NEEDED TO, AS WELL AS HIRE THE WORK BASED LEARNING NAVIGATOR.

SO AS I MENTIONED BEFORE THE INFORMATION I'VE SHARED TONIGHT, THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY A LOT OF UPCOMING CHANGES.

COMMUNICATION IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO ME AS WELL AS COLLABORATION.

SO BECAUSE OF THAT, I'M GOING TO BE STARTING A WORK GROUP TO HELP GUIDE THESE CHANGES.

SO MY PLAN IS TO MEET AS A WHOLE GROUP IN JANUARY TO KIND OF GIVE AN OVERVIEW SIMILAR TO THIS, TO THIS WORK GROUP, AND THEN TO CONTINUE WITH MORE FOCUSED SMALLER GROUPS THROUGH THE SPRING.

TO REALLY I DON'T KNOW THAT A BUSINESS PARTNER NEEDS TO BE A PART OF OUR CCTC BUS SCHEDULE.

BUT I ALSO KNOW THAT THEY NEED TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART IN WHICH DO WE GO PROGRAMING CYBER OR NETWORKING BECAUSE THEY'RE OUT IN THE FIELD CURRENTLY. SO THIS IS THE MEMBERS OF THE GROUP.

SO. NIKKI VONDENBOSCH MATH, I'M SURE YOU ALL ARE AWARE, HAS SOME INTENSE CHANGES OCCURRING AS WELL.

SO WE NEED TO BE VERY COLLABORATIVE IN NATURE AS WELL.

AND SHE HAS BEEN A PAST HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.

I THOUGHT A COUNSELOR REPRESENTATION FROM NOT ONLY EACH OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS, BUT ALSO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS IMPORTANT BECAUSE, AS I SAID, EIGHTH GRADERS ARE GOING TO BE SCHEDULING FOR FOUR YEARS.

THEY NEED TO HAVE INPUT INTO THIS AS WELL. I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT THERE WAS CTE TEACHER REPRESENTATION.

AND AS I SHARED IN THE PRESENTATION, WE HAVE CTE PROGRAMS IN THREE BUILDINGS.

SO I WANTED A REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH OF THE BUILDINGS.

I WOULD LIKE A CCTC PARENT TO BE A PART OF THIS WORK GROUP.

AND THEN FROM THE BUSINESS ASPECT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND THEN OUR PARTNER, CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE. SO THAT IS WHO I WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART OF THIS WORK GROUP.

WE'VE IMPLEMENTED SOME PROCEDURES WHEN WE'RE DEALING WITH THINGS THAT BRING ABOUT SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

WE ARE ENTERING INTO A TIME OF SIGNIFICANT CHANGE AS MSDE IS MAKING SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF SHIFTS.

THIS ONE ACTUALLY CAME FROM A THE CTE WORK GROUP THAT WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE GOVERNOR AND THEN WORKED WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ED.

WE PUT A PROCEDURE IN PLACE BY WHICH OUR TEAM LEADS, WOULD SKETCH OUT THEIR STEP BY STEP APPROACH MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT THAT WE TAKE THE VERY LARGE AUDACIOUS TASK OF WHAT'S COMING THROUGH THIS IN 27-28 AND BREAK IT DOWN INTO MEANINGFUL TASKS OF HOW WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF KIND OF EAT THE WHOLE PIE.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WE WANT TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THE APPROACH.

WE WANT THE BOARD TO BE AWARE OF THE WORK THAT'S GOING TO BE TRANSPIRING WITH THE BOARD'S SUPPORT, OBVIOUSLY, IN MOVING THAT WORK FORWARD. BUT WE ALSO WANT TO BE CLEAR, AS MS. MCCORMICK MENTIONED, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT POTENTIAL PROGRAMMATIC CHANGES. PROGRAM CHANGES, THAT THE CTE LEVEL REQUIRE BOARD APPROVAL.

SO THE COMMITTEE, THE WORK GROUP WOULD BE MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WOULD COME TO THE BOARD FOR THEIR CONSIDERATION REGARDING CTE PROGRAM CHANGES.

THEY WOULD WORK THROUGH THE NUTS AND BOLTS PIECES OF THAT, GATHERING THE INFORMATION OF WHAT MAKES THE MOST SENSE, WHAT THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE, NOT ONLY IN PROGRAMING ANY NEW COURSES.

IF THERE'S RECOMMENDATIONS OF ADDING NEW PROGRAMS, NEW PROGRAMS HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD.

NEW COURSES HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD.

EVENTUALLY THERE'S GOING TO BE A BUDGETARY IMPACT.

THE BUDGETARY IMPACT WILL DEFINITELY BE HERE BY FISCAL YEAR 28, BUT POTENTIALLY COULD RUN INTO FISCAL YEAR 27 AS WE'RE WORKING TO SCALE UP IF THERE ARE THINGS WE HAVE TO TRAIN PEOPLE ON AHEAD OF TIME.

SO WE HAVE THOSE THINGS THAT WILL COME IN FRONT OF THE BOARD.

THIS LIKELY IS FOR OUR BOARD. THIS IS LIKELY THE BIGGEST TASK THAT OUR BOARD HAS WORKED THROUGH.

AND FOR MEMBERS WHO'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THIS IS PROBABLY THE KIND OF THE BIGGEST OVERHAUL OF SOMETHING THAT'S COME FORWARD.

AND I APPRECIATE THE EFFORTS THAT MISS MCCORMICK HAS PUT IN TO REALLY SKETCH THIS OUT AND WORK THROUGH IT, BECAUSE IT IS BIG. THE INITIAL RECOMMENDATION THAT WAS GOING TO GO BEFORE THE STATE BOARD WAS THAT IT WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED A YEAR SOONER.

WHEN SHE CAME TO ME MANY OF US ADVOCATED THAT WE NEED MORE TIME.

[INAUDIBLE] PROVIDES REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION ON THE STATE OF OF AFFAIRS, SORT OF IN THE COUNTY AND PROVIDES VERY USEFUL INFORMATION FOR LEADERSHIP AND FOR FOLKS TO TO WORK TO MAKE CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS A BETTER PLACE TO WORK.

LAST YEAR OR THIS YEAR, SORRY OUR PARTICIPATION RATE WAS AT 67% WHICH NEW MEASURES STILL SAID THAT'S GOOD FOR A SURVEY THAT GOES OUT TO STAFF.

IT'S NOT OUR LOWEST. IT'S NOT OUR HIGHEST. BUT WE WERE SITTING AT 67% SURVEY PARTICIPATION RATE THIS THIS YEAR.

WITH THAT THEIR CONFIDENCE ON THE DATA THAT'S PRESENTED IS 99% CONFIDENCE THAT THE SCORES ARE WITHIN 2 TO 3 POINTS OF WHERE THEY WOULD BE IF EVERYBODY TOOK IT.

SO IT GIVES US GOOD RELIABILITY AMONGST THE SCORES.

SO WHAT I TRY TO DO FOR EVERYONE IS WHAT WE'VE DONE PREVIOUSLY IN YEARS.

THE BOARD DOES RECEIVE A MORE DETAILED COPY OF THIS IN CLOSED SESSION BECAUSE IT HAS A LOT OF PERSONAL INFORMATION IN IT.

SO WE SUMMARIZE FOR THE PUBLIC AND SUMMARIZE THE REALLY WANT TO REVOLVE AROUND THE STRENGTHS AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT SHOWED UP IN THE SURVEY.

AS A SCHOOL SYSTEM, OVERALL, OUR ENGAGEMENT IS STILL TRENDING UPWARDS.

WE'VE BEEN ON AN UPWARD TICK IN ENGAGEMENT OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS, WHICH HAS BEEN WONDERFUL TO SEE STILL HAVE ROOM TO GROW, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE THE GROWTH AND ENGAGEMENT COMING BACK FROM OUR EMPLOYEES.

ONE OF THE THEMES THAT JUMPED OUT IN THE SURVEY AS A STRENGTH WAS THE NUMBER OR THE PERCENTAGE OF OUR EMPLOYEES WHO PLAN TO STAY AT CCPS WAS A HIGH PERCENTAGE HIGHER THAN INDUSTRY AVERAGE.

AND WITHIN THAT, OUR EMPLOYEES ARE ASKED TO FOLLOW UP IF THEY PLAN TO STAY.

WHY? WHY DO THEY STAY? AND THE TOP THREE ITEMS THAT SHOWED UP WERE THE PEOPLE THEY WORK WITH AND THE STUDENTS IN OUR SYSTEM.

THE FEELING OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN GETTING TO DO WHAT THEY DO BEST EVERY DAY.

ANOTHER ONE OF OUR HIGHEST RATED ITEMS ACROSS THE SURVEY WAS THAT OUR EMPLOYEES CONTINUE TO REPORT THAT THEIR CLEAR JOB EXPECTATIONS AND THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WORK THAT THEY DO AND THEIR BIGGER PICTURE HAPPY TO REPORT THAT OUR EMPLOYEES MENTIONED THEY FELT VERY RESPECTED BY THEIR BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS, AND THAT WAS ACROSS THE SYSTEM. AND THERE WAS A STRONG SENSE OF TEAMWORK WITHIN THEIR IMMEDIATE WORK TEAM.

AS A THEME WE SAW IN THE SURVEY. AND THIS IS INDICATIVE ACROSS SCHOOL SYSTEMS. AND IT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON. BUT SCHOOL SYSTEMS, THE WAY THAT THEY ARE SET UP, WE TEND TO THINK ABOUT IT IN TERMS OF COMMUNITIES, THE PEOPLE WHO YOU'RE WITH THE CLOSEST ALL THE TIME, YOU FEEL THE MOST CONNECTED WITH. AS YOU GET FURTHER OUT FROM THAT CIRCLE, YOU MIGHT NOT FEEL AS CONNECTED WITHIN IT.

SO IF YOU LOOK AT THE ENGAGEMENT AND THE CONNECTION THAT FOLKS FEEL OUR EMPLOYEES DEMONSTRATE IN THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEY IS THAT THEY FEEL MOST CLOSELY CONNECTED WITH, SAY, THEIR TEAM, THEIR GRADE LEVEL TEAM.

PEOPLE THEY SEE ON A DAILY BASIS. WHERE IT STARTS TO DIMINISH IS WHEN YOU GET OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING AND FINDING THAT CONNECTION AMONGST THE BUILDING TO OTHER BUILDINGS OR THE BUILDINGS TO DISTRICT LEVEL OFFICES AND WORKING THROUGH THAT.

IT'S VERY COMMON IN SCHOOL SYSTEMS, BUT IT IS A CHALLENGE. WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO WORK TO STRENGTHEN AND NOT JUST ACCEPT THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS.

BUT FOR US TO WORK THROUGH THAT. SO WHILE THERE'S A GREAT, STRONG SENSE OF TEAM IN THEIR IMMEDIATE TEAM, THEY LOVE WHO THEY'RE WORKING WITH. WE'VE GOT TO BUILD A STRONGER CONNECTION ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

SO OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE FOUND WITHIN THAT SURVEY INTENTIONALLY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF INPUT BEING MORE MEANINGFUL AND INTENTIONAL ABOUT GETTING EMPLOYEE FEEDBACK FOR CHANGES THAT ARE COMING.

PART OF THAT IS INDICATIVE IN MRS. MCCORMICK'S PRESENTATION TONIGHT AND TALKING ABOUT THE CTE CHANGES THAT ARE COMING, THE INTENTIONALITY THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE PUTTING IN WHEN THERE ARE CHANGES, THAT WE'RE GETTING FEEDBACK FROM THE PEOPLE THAT IT'S GOING TO IMPACT, AND NOT GETTING FEEDBACK AFTER THE CAKE IS BAKED.

BUT LITERALLY GETTING PEOPLE IN AT THE POINT WHERE WE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE RECIPE WILL BE AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO GO ABOUT BAKING THIS CAKE BUT BEING MORE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THAT. WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO WORK TO FIND OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD A CLEAR CONNECTION TO OUR CCPS BRANDING, WHICH IS THE ONE FAMILY, ONE VISION. AND A BIG PART OF THAT IS THE FAMILY FEEL SEEMS TO BE THERE AND RESONATE, BUT IT'S MAKING SURE WE'RE CONNECTING EVERYTHING BACK TO THE VISION AND THE WHY. THE WHY BEHIND DECISIONS IS IMPORTANT, AND WE NEED TO BE MORE INTENTIONAL ALL THE TIME ABOUT PUTTING THAT OUT THERE.

WHAT CAME ACROSS IN THE SURVEY, THE FEELING OF WHY AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL AT THE BUILDING LEVEL WHERE YOU WORK, PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY GET THE WHY FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WITH THEM EVERY DAY.

THEY MAY NOT ALWAYS GET THE WHY WHEN DECISIONS ARE MADE OUTSIDE OF WHERE THEY WORK FROM, PEOPLE THEY DON'T SEE ON A DAILY BASIS.

SO WE'VE GOT TO BE MORE INTENTIONAL ABOUT BUILDING THE WHY AND PUSHING THAT DOWN.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WILL BE IMPLEMENTING STARTING REALLY THIS MONTH, IS WORKING ON A SUPERINTENDENT VIDEO MESSAGE THAT WILL GO ON A ROUTINE BASIS TO STAFF SORT OF UPDATES THINGS WE'RE WORKING ON, AND TRYING TO BE INTENTIONAL WITH MYSELF, WITH MAKING SURE THAT I'M PUTTING THAT WHY OUT THERE AND OPENING UP THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR NOT ONLY HERE IS THE WHY WHAT WE'RE DOING SOMETHING, BUT THAT OPPORTUNITY WHEN I'M IN BUILDINGS TO ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION AND MAKE SURE WE'RE HAVING THAT DIALOG THAT'S THERE, I WANT TO TRY TO ANYTHING I CAN DO TO TO BREAK DOWN THAT BARRIER AND TAKE AWAY ANY AMBIGUITY OVER WHY WE MIGHT BE DOING SOMETHING OR WHY WE MIGHT BE MAKING A CHANGE.

AND THE LAST ONE UNDER OPPORTUNITIES IS CONTINUING FOR US TO FIND WAYS TO SUPPORT STAFF TO ACHIEVE THEIR CAREER GOALS.

WE MADE GAINS IN THIS, ESPECIALLY IN OUR SUPPORT STAFF AGREEMENT LAST YEAR WITH THE SUPPORT WE PUT IN PLACE TO SUPPORT MANY OF OUR EMPLOYEES FOR THE GROW YOUR OWN INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT SOME OF OUR MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEES GETTING ADDITIONAL CREDENTIALING.

WE MADE STRIDES THERE. BUT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO LOOK TO HOW DO WE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR TEACHING STAFF TO ACHIEVE THEIR CAREER GOALS AND OTHERS WHO DON'T FIT IN THOSE MORE TRADITIONAL CATEGORIES TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING THOSE SORTS OF THINGS. STEPS GOING FORWARD, I'VE TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THIS ALREADY BEING INTENTIONAL ABOUT OUR COMMUNICATION AND OUR TWO WAY COMMUNICATION.

REALLY WANT TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT STRENGTHENING THE WHY IN OUR CRITICAL MESSAGES FROM DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S GETTING THROUGH EVERYBODY.
