THE BOARD OF EDUCATION DOES NOT ENGAGE IN A DISCUSSION OF THE MATTER BEING BROUGHT TO IT, BUT WILL, IF APPROPRIATE, DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT TO RESPOND AT A LATER TIME.

INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE ADVISED THAT EACH PERSON ADDRESSING THE BOARD WILL HAVE A FIVE MINUTE TIME LIMIT.

ONCE THE TIME LIMIT HAS BEEN REACHED, THE SPEAKER WILL BE ASKED TO FINISH THEIR COMMENTS.

HI. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK ON THE RECORD TONIGHT.

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME SPEAKING HERE IN ABOUT A YEAR.

THE LAST TIME I DID SO, IT WAS TO A MOSTLY EMPTY ROOM.

IT IS BECAUSE THE MONTHLY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE SAME NIGHT AS THE GENERAL ELECTION.

THAT IS THAT CERTAINLY COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED, AND I HOPE WILL BE AVOIDED BECAUSE THERE IS A PRIMARY ELECTION AND A GENERAL ELECTION IN 2026.

I KNOW YOU WILL DELIBERATE ON YOUR SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR OVER THE COURSE OF THIS YEAR.

I HOPE THAT NOT ONLY THAT IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT, AND I HAVE BROUGHT THIS UP WITH THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

THERE ARE SEVERAL COUNTY BUDGET HEARINGS, PUBLIC MEETINGS, AND ONE OF THOSE THIS PAST SPRING CONFLICTED WITH A BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING, AND I DO NOT THINK THAT IS FAIR TO THE CITIZENS AND TAXPAYERS OF THE COUNTY TO HAVE TO CHOOSE.

WITH THAT SAID. AS SOME OF YOU, MOST OF YOU, ALL OF YOU KNOW.

I'M A PROFESSIONAL HISTORIAN, AND IN FACT,

I'M THE ONLY CURRENTLY ACTIVE COUNTYWIDE HISTORIAN IN CAROLINE COUNTY.

IT PLEASED ME WHEN I SAW ON SOCIAL MEDIA THIS YEAR, AND I BELIEVE LAST YEAR, MAYBE THE YEAR BEFORE, THAT NEW TEACHERS AND TEACHERS NEW TO THE COUNTY RECEIVE A COUNTY WIDE TOUR.

AS PART OF THE PRE SERVICE/IN SERVICE TIME TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHO THEY'RE TEACHING THE SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS AND JUST THE GENERAL CONTEXT, IF YOU WILL, OF CAROLINE COUNTY.

I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, THAT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO PARTNER WITH ANYONE OR UP TO ALL OF THE MULTIPLE HISTORICAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS COUNTY, AND QUITE FRANKLY, SOME OF THE LEADING INDIVIDUAL HISTORIANS AS WELL.

I HAVE PARTNERED WITH THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS HERE.

PREVIOUSLY. THERE ARE SOME YOUTUBE VIDEOS OUT THERE FOR I FORGET THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE, BUT I RECORDED A 1-2 MINUTE VIDEO IN EACH TOWN OSTENSIBLY TO EDUCATE, TEACHERS, STUDENTS, EVERYBODY IN BETWEEN, ABOUT THE HISTORY OF AT LEAST THE FIVE MAJOR TOWNS OF CAROLINE COUNTY.

THERE IS SOME PRECEDENT THERE.

BUT I ALSO WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION, AND THIS WILL CONCLUDE MY REMARKS TO THE FACT THAT NOT ONLY DID CAROLINE COUNTY CELEBRATE ITS 250TH ANNIVERSARY, I GUESS, BACK IN 2023-2024, BUT THE STATE OF MARYLAND, AND INDEED, THE UNITED STATES WILL BE CELEBRATING OR STARTING OR CONTINUING WHATEVER WORD YOU WANT TO USE.

CELEBRATING THEIR 250TH, ESPECIALLY NEXT YEAR.

WHILE THAT PRESENTS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY IN THE CLASSROOM, ACROSS THE BOARD, ACROSS THE CURRICULUM.

I DO ALSO WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS BY EXECUTIVE ORDER OF GOVERNOR WES MOORE, AN OFFICIAL MARYLAND 250TH COMMITTEE.

WHILE THEY WILL BE PREPARING VARIOUS RESOURCES, ONE RESOURCE THAT THEY MADE AVAILABLE JUST THIS AUGUST WAS GRANT MONEY FOR WHAT THEY ARE CALLING A CITIZENS ACADEMY.

WHICH IS OPEN TO COUNTY GOVERNMENTS, MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENTS, COUNTY LIBRARIES AND PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS, COUNTY BY COUNTY ACROSS THE STATE.

IF YOU WERE NOT AWARE OF THAT PROGRAM, YOU CAN GRANT MONEY.

I'M NOT GOING TO SAY TO DO WITH WHAT YOU WANT.

THERE ARE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS DIRECTED BY THE COMMITTEE AND THE EXECUTIVE ORDER.

BUT IF IT IS MY PLACE TO DO SO, I'D LOVE TO SIT DOWN AND TALK ABOUT HOW THAT MONEY MIGHT BE SPENT DOING A CITIZENS ACADEMY OF THROUGH THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

I'VE ALREADY TALKED TO THE PUBLIC LIBRARY ABOUT IT.I HAVE APPROACHED SEVERAL TOWNS, AND I ATTEND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETINGS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

SOMEWHERE, SOMEBODY IS GOING TO LEARN HOW OUR FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WORK.

THERE WAS THE PARKS SUMMER CAMP.

I GUESS THAT WAS THE THING AT PRESTON TOO, SO WHATEVER.

THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JUDY CENTER WAS CELEBRATED THIS SUMMER. NEW STAFFING.

THEY WELCOMED DR. [INAUDIBLE] WHO PREVIOUSLY WORKED AT CCTC, I THINK.

YEAH. AS THE NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL.

IT'S NOT UP THERE, BUT THEIR PRE-K ORIENTATION IS ON THE EIGHTH, AND THEY ALSO STARTED THE NINTH.

KERNEL MIDDLE. LAST, I GUESS, OVER THE SUMMER WAS THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW ROOF PLUS METAL SIDING ALONG THE BUILDING EXTERIOR.

THEY HAVE A NEW PBIS FOCUS.

I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT USED TO BE, BUT NOW IT'S UNITY, WHICH STANDS FOR UNSTOPPABLE, TEACHABLE AND BEING YOURSELF.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT WAS I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE.

IT WAS LIKE LAST WEDNESDAY?

>> OVER THE SUMMER, THEY HELD MEETINGS WITH CHRONICALLY ABSENT STUDENTS TO ESTABLISH PROACTIVE ATTENDANCE PLANS.

THE FIRST MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER PROGRAM THROUGH THE YMCA WAS HELD.

AT COLONEL HIGH, JUST GRAPHICS UPDATES THROUGHOUT THE HALLS AND IN THE OFFICE.

THEY HOSTED THE SUMMER ARTS AND SCIENCE RETREAT, AND THE COUNTY WIDE KICKOFF, HOSTED NEW TEACHER EVENTS, IT'S NOT MUCH TO THIS, HELD SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT MEETINGS.

MR. SHERMAN DIDN'T REALLY GIVE ME ANYTHING FOR EVENTS.

THEN FOR RICHEY ELEMENTARY, THEY HAD THEIR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT LAST MONTH, I THINK IT WAS LIKE LAST WEEK.

THEN THEIR UPCOMING EVENTS IN SEPTEMBER 8, THEY HAVE THEIR PRE-K ORIENTATION.

THEN ALSO ON SEPTEMBER 8, THEY HAVE THEIR PRE-K FIRST DAY, WHICH IS STRANGE.

LAST MONTH FOR GREENS ELEMENTARY, THEY HAD THEIR WILLIE ROOF SUMMER LEARNING PARTY.

WHICH MRS.KIRK SAID IT WAS LIKE THEY HAD TO READ SO MANY BOOKS IN ORDER TO HAVE A PARTY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THAT SOUNDS COOL.

THEN THEY WELCOME SEVEN NEW TEACHERS TO THEIR FAMILY, AND THEY HAD THEIR ANNUAL MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT OR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

SOME OF THE UPCOMING EVENTS WAS TODAY.

OBVIOUSLY IT WAS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR GRADES K THROUGH FIVE, SEPTEMBER 8, THEY'LL HAVE THEIR PRE-K ORIENTATION.

SEPTEMBER 9 WILL BE THE FIRST DAY FOR THE PRE-K. SEPTEMBER 23, THEY'LL HAVE THEIR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

FOR LOCKERMAN, MISS NECESSARY JUST GAVE ME BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

I THINK SHE WAS A LITTLE BUSY.

BUT BECAUSE SHE SENT TO ME THIS MORNING AND SHE SAID SHE WAS VERY BUSY, SO IT WAS OKAY.

BUT SHE ALSO SAID THAT THEY SAW A LOT OF FRIENDLY FACES AT SUMMER FEST BECAUSE I THINK LOCKERMAN WAS AT SUMMER FEST, SO SHE SAID IT WENT REALLY WELL.

THEN MR. SPIER MESSAGE SAYS, WE'RE SO EXCITED TO GET THIS YEAR STARTED AT NCHS, GETTING TO WELCOME THE STUDENTS BACK INTO THE BUILDING AND TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR SUMMERS IS SO MUCH FUN.

LAST WEEK, WE HAD OUR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, WHICH IS REALLY FUN BECAUSE A LOT OF THINGS IN OUR SCHOOL CHANGED THAT I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND THERE'S A LOT OF NEW TEACHERS AND DIFFERENT PRINCIPALS.

SEPTEMBER 18, THERE WILL BE THE SECAC SPECIAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP, SEPTEMBER 22-23RD, THERE'LL BE SENIOR MAKEUP PICTURES FOR ANYONE WHO DIDN'T DO IT OVER THE SUMMER.

OCTOBER 3 IS THE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME, AND THEN OCTOBER 4 IS OUR HOMECOMING DANCE.

THEN LAST MONTH FOR CCTC, THEY HAD THEIR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT AND THEY ALSO GOT A NEW PRINCIPAL WHO I GOT TO MEET.

THEN UPCOMING EVENTS IS MR'S.NEAL WILL BE ATTENDING THE BIG EASTERN REGIONALS FFA.

IT IS IN INDIANAPOLIS, WHICH IS WHERE IT TYPICALLY IS.

THE FIELD TRIP IS IN OCTOBER TO NOVEMBER.

IT STRETCHES THAT PERIOD OCTOBER 24TH TO NOVEMBER 1.

BECAUSE THE TRIP EXCEEDS THE NUMBER OF DAYS THE SUPERINTENDENT CAN APPROVE IT HAS TO GO TO THE BOARD FOR THEIR APPROVAL FOR THE FIELD TRIP.

BOARD DOES HAVE THE INFORMATION WITHIN THEIR PACKET.

THERE ARE FIVE STUDENTS LISTED GOING, AND THEY DO HAVE THE CHAPERONE.

MS. NEAL HAS TAKEN CARE OF EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE HANDLED FOR THE FIELD TRIP.

CIP IS REQUIRED BY AGENCY COMMISSION FOR SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION, KNOWN AS THE IEC.

TO BE UPDATED AND ANNUALLY APPROVED BY ALL BOARDS OF EDUCATION.

FOLLOWING THE BOARD'S ACCEPTANCE AND APPROVAL, THE CIP IS THEN TAKEN AND SUBMITTED TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THEIR ACCEPTANCE AND SUPPORT.

SUMMARY OF ALL FUTURE YEARS PROJECTS IS INCLUDED ON FORM 102.4, AND CAN BE FOUND ON PAGE 3 OF YOUR CIP DOCUMENT.

THERE IS NO FINANCIAL IMPACT TO THIS FOR CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

THERE'S A SHARED COST BETWEEN THE STATE AND LOCAL OVER THE NEXT FIVE FISCAL YEARS, FY 27 TO FY 31, THE STATE SHARE WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $78 MILLION.

THE LOCAL SHARE WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $25 MILLION.

I DO WANT TO NOTE THAT THESE FIGURES ARE NOT CHISELED IN STONE YET.

THERE'S STILL A LOT OF DETAILS THAT HAVE TO BE WORKED OUT.

I GOT TO TELL YOU ALSO THIS CIP WAS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS BEFORE, NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT NOW, IT JUST HAD A DIFFERENT FEEL.

AS YOU'LL SEE, IT'S VERY HEAVY HANDED ON THE NEW BUILD FOR THE NEXT FOUR FISCAL YEARS, THAT'S ALL I'M GOING AFTER.

UNLESS THE EMERGENCY OF SOME SORT COMES UP, OF COURSE, BUT THAT'S REALLY ALL WE'RE GOING AFTER.

RIGHT NOW, FOR THE FY 27 CIP, WE'RE GOING TO BE ASKING FOR STATE PLANNING APPROVAL IN THE FORM OF ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING DESIGN, AND PLANNING FUNDS TO TUNE OF $6.8 MILLION.

THE STATE SHARE OF THAT WOULD BE $5.3 MILLION, LOCAL SHARE WOULD BE $1.4 MILLION.

UPON STATE APPROVAL FOR THIS PROJECT, BEGINNING IN FY 28, WE WILL BEGIN REQUESTING LARGER AMOUNTS OF FUNDING FOR THE ACTUAL BUILD, AND THAT'S REFLECTED ON PAGE 3 OF THE CIP, WHICH I'LL GO OVER REALLY BRIEFLY.

FUTURE COSTS ARE SOMEWHAT SPECULATIVE AT THIS POINT, AS THE A&E DESIGN HAS NOT BEEN BROUGHT INTO THE EQUATION FOR THE FINAL RENDITION. THAT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN.

WE'LL GET THEM ON BOARD MORE IN THE SPRING.

WE'LL GET SOME MORE CLARITY AS TO WHAT THE FINAL ASSET WILL BE GOING INTO NEXT YEAR'S CIP.

THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THE PROJECT COMPLETED BY JUNE OF 2029 WITH OCCUPANCY SCHEDULED TO OCCUR IN AUGUST OF 2029, WHICH WOULD BE FY 30.

IT'S AN AGGRESSIVE TIMELINE.

BUT THAT'S BEEN THE PLAN FROM DAY 1, SO WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO STAY IN THAT TIMELINE PLAN.

THERE'S ALSO TWO OTHER PROJECTS LISTED ON THE CIP BOTH FOR FY 30 AND FY 31.

THEY ARE BOTH THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS AT CAROLINA CAMPUS AND NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL.

BOTH ARE IDENTICAL. THEY'RE BOTH BUILT IN 1968.

THEY'RE BOTH 57-YEARS-OLD TODAY.

SURPRISINGLY, THEY'RE NOT AS EXPENSIVE AS I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO BE AT TODAY'S NUMBER.

NOW, IF WE WAIT FIVE YEARS, I CAN'T GUARANTEE THIS NUMBER IS GOING TO HOLD, BUT APPROXIMATELY $1.3 MILLION.

STATE SHARE, GIVEN THIS SHARE THAT WE'RE IN THESE NEXT TWO YEARS, AT 97 3% SPLIT, THE STATE WOULD BE ON THEIR SHARE COST WOULD BE $1.2 MILLION AND LOCAL WOULD BE $40,000 FOR BOTH, SO THERE'S OPPORTUNITY THERE.

I DO WANT TO SAY THAT I'M TRYING TO GET TWO BIRDS ONE STONE ON THIS.

I WANT TO TRY AND GET THE IEC TO SUBSCRIBE TO MY WAY OF THINKING OF THINGS, DON'T GET CHEAPER AS WE WAIT LONGER.

SINCE THE BOARD DECIDED TO PLACE THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ON THE NORTH CAROLINA PROPERTY, IT WOULD BEHOOVE OF US TO REALLY TRY AND FORCE THAT ISSUE TO SEE IF WE CAN GET THAT PROJECT, WHICH ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS, AND MAYBE TRY AND GET THAT INTO THE BUILD THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO AS WE START GOING ALONG WITH THAT CONSTRUCTION PHASE.

AGAIN, WE'RE GOING TO SAVING MONEY DOWN THE ROAD.

IT'S DEFINITELY WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

I JUST DON'T KNOW IF THE STATE THINKS THE WAY I THINK.

I'M GOING TO ASK THEM TO PUSH TO TRY AND GET THAT DONE.

IF THAT COMES TRUE, THEN THE COLONEL CAMPUS, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE FY 31, WE'RE GOING TO PUSH TO MOVE THAT UP A YEAR FOR FY 30.

THIS SUMMER, AS IN THE PAST, CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS PARTNERED WITH CAROLINE COUNTY RECREATION AND PARKS.

CAROLINE COUNTY RECREATION AND PARKS OFFERED A FIVE-WEEK-IN-PERSON PROGRAM MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, THAT INCLUDED CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL STAFF MEMBERS, SITE COORDINATORS, AND RECREATION AND PARK STAFF.

ALTHOUGH, WE HAD MANY LESS CERTIFIED TEACHERS THIS YEAR THAN PREVIOUS YEARS, TEACHERS ACTUALLY, IT WAS A DIFFERENT MODEL AND THEY STAYED ALL DAY LONG, AND SO WE'RE ABLE TO WORK WITH EVEN MORE STUDENTS AND MORE CLASSES.

THE RECREATION AND PARK STAFF INCLUDED DIRECTORS AND 49 SENIOR COUNSELORS, AS WELL AS JUNIOR COUNSELORS.

THERE WAS A SENIOR COUNSELOR WITH EACH CERTIFIED TEACHER AND ACTED IN THE ROLE OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT DURING INSTRUCTION TIME, AND THEN THE LEAD WHEN IT WAS THE RECREATION TIME.

ALL OF THOSE STAFF MEMBERS HELPED WITH THE 602 CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT ATTENDED SUMMER PROGRAM.

WITH THAT, JUST SHY OF 500 PARENTS ATTENDED AN ORIENTATION THAT RECREATION AND PARKS HAD.

SO 90% OF THE STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED SUMMER PROGRAM HAD PARENT OR GUARDIAN ATTEND ORIENTATION.

WE TRULY DO BELIEVE THAT, THAT HELPED WITH A 2% INCREASE OF PERFECT ATTENDANCE FROM LAST YEAR.

AS WELL AS ON AVERAGE, STUDENTS ATTENDED 14.67 DAYS OUT OF THE 19 DAY PROGRAM.

I THINK HAVING THE ORIENTATION THAT WAS SET OUT TO BE REQUIRED, BUT IT REALLY WASN'T GOING TO HOLD ANYBODY BACK FROM ATTENDING THE PROGRAM.

BUT WHAT A GREAT TURNOUT OF PARENTS AND GUARDIANS, WHICH REALLY GAVE THE BUY IN FOR THEIR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.

IT'S A GROW YOUR OWN PROGRAM FROM THEIR POINT OF VIEW.

>> ONE OF THE REAL HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ELEMENTARY SUMMER PROGRAM WAS THAT 5TH GRADERS AT DENTON GREENSBORO AND FEDERALSBURG HAD DAILY SCIENCE LESSONS AND KAYAKING AND FISHING TRIPS WERE TAKEN THAT REALLY WERE FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION AND THE NORTH AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION.

WITH THAT, THE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS, OF WHICH THE PROJECTS ARE GOING TO BE SHOWCASED SOON, BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE WAS A MURAL DONE, OUR RIVER, OUR RESPONSIBILITY, AND THEN ANOTHER ONE AS WELL AND THEN DENTON ELEMENTARY WAS ABLE TO MAKE A MUSIC VIDEO, SO A LOT OF GREAT OPPORTUNITIES AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH SHORERIVERS.

THIS YEAR, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE CALL IT SCEP, WHICH MEANS SUMMER CAREER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, WAS HELD AT EASTON HIGH SCHOOL IN TALBOT COUNTY.

STUDENTS FROM TALBOT, DORCHESTER, AND CAROLINE ATTENDED WITH ABOUT 75 STUDENTS FROM CAROLINE COUNTY.

THIS PROGRAM IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PEOPLE FOR CHANGE COALITION AND THE MID-SHORE REGIONAL COUNCIL.

OUR STUDENTS, AS WELL AS THE OTHER COUNTY STUDENTS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN SOME INNOVATIVE FIELDS, SUCH AS DRONES, APP DEVELOPMENT, AND THEN THERE WAS EVEN A SESSION ON CHESS WHERE STUDENTS LEARNED TO MAKE THE "RIGHT MOVE IN LIFE." THEY LEARNED LIFE LESSONS THROUGH THE GAME OF CHESS.

WE HAVE A GREAT PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR NEWSPAPERS AS WELL, AND THERE WAS AN ARTICLE IN THE CAROLINE REVIEW AS WELL AROUND THIS PROGRAM.

>> WITH REGARDS TO HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT RECOVERY, ONE OF THE THINGS WE WANT TO EMPHASIZE, AND I'LL START BY ALSO SAYING GOOD EVENING.

[LAUGHTER] PRESIDENT WAYMAN, DR. SIMMONS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, IS THE FACT THAT WE HAD A LOT OF STUDENTS GET THEIR COURSES COMPLETED.

AS WE HAVE TRANSITIONED, AND IT FEELS LIKE IT HAS BEEN FIVE YEARS, THE PANDEMIC REALLY DID PUT A SLIDE ON STUDENTS NEEDING TO GET CAUGHT UP AND AS WE ARE NOW TRANSITION AND RAISING THAT RIGOR, WE ARE GOING TO A EMBEDDED DURING THE DAY PREDOMINANT CREDIT RECOVERY FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS.

THIS WAS PRETTY MUCH ONE OF THE LAST SUMMERS WHERE WE HOPE TO SEE THAT WE DO THAT BIG ROUND CALL BECAUSE WE ARE TRULY EMPHASIZING THINGS HAVE STARTED TO LEVEL OUT AND THE EXPECTATION IS SUCH THAT YOU'RE GOING TO PASS THESE DURING THE DAY.

AS YOU SEE, WE HAD 36 STUDENTS WHO WERE THERE AND WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE COURSES.

NORTH CAROLINA HAD 103.

IT'S ALWAYS A BIG PROGRAM THERE, WE HAD 33 STUDENTS WITH ACCOMMODATIONS AND ONE OF THE THINGS I'LL SAY WITH THAT IS THEY REALLY WERE ABLE TO GET THAT ONE ON ONE SUPPORT.

BUT WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE, AND I'LL TALK ABOUT COMMUNITY SCHOOL A LITTLE BIT IN A MINUTE, THAT WE'RE DOING SOME THINGS DURING THE YEAR WHERE WE'RE WRAPPING THOSE SUPPORTS AND SERVICES AROUND STUDENTS EVEN MORE SO THAT THEY'RE GETTING THE HELP BEFORE THEY NEED TO GET TO CREDIT RECOVERY.

BUT WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT THAT PROGRAM IS THERE AND IT'S HELPED OUR STUDENTS GET BACK ON TRACK.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT CREDIT RECOVERY? THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE PROGRAMS WE DID THIS SUMMER AND IT'S ACTUALLY A HYBRID.

WE HAD AWARE FUNDS AND THAT GRANT IS COMING TO AN END AND I DO LOOK FORWARD TO PUTTING TOGETHER AN OVERVIEW OF THE LAST FIVE YEARS FROM PROJECT AWARE BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME REALLY GREAT PIECES THAT HAVE COME FROM THAT GRANT.

WITH SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL FUNDS THAT WE HAD, I REALLY HAVE TO EMPHASIZE THAT WE HAD A BRAINSTORM ABOUT PILOTING SOME SUMMER PROGRAMMING AND THAT WAS A MODEL FOR OUR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.

BECAUSE AS WE MOVE FORWARD, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO HAVE A NICE, ROBUST MENU OF OPTIONS FOR OUR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AND ALSO BY THIS TIME NEXT SUMMER, THAT WE ARE INCREASING THE NUMBER OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR KIDDOS.

THE PARTNERSHIP WAS AMAZING AND I'M A LITTLE BIASED AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT WE DID WORK WITH CAROLINA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND CHOPTANK HEALTH AND THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE, THERE ARE ADDITIONAL FUNDS, THE STATE WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WANTED TO USE THEM AND OF COURSE, THE ANSWER IS YES.

IT'S LIKE LET'S HIT THE GROUND RUNNING, LET'S FIGURE OUT SOME THINGS TO DO WITH THESE FUNDS.

OUR PARTNERS CAME TOGETHER WITH THE COORDINATORS FROM COLONEL MIDDLE AND LOCKERMAN AND WE REALLY STARTED BRAINSTORMING, WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD TARGET AUDIENCE? SOME OF OUR STUDENTS WHO GET SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FROM SCHOOL, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE HAD A TOUCH BASE WITH THEM DURING THE SUMMER.

THAT'S HOW WE CAME ABOUT WITH PARTNERING WITH CAROLINE BEHAVIORAL AND CHOPTANK AND IT WAS OPEN TO OTHER STUDENTS AS WELL.

BUT WE DID HAVE A MINI SEL CAMP AND THE FOCUS WAS ON BOTVIN LESSONS, THOSE ARE EVIDENCE-BASED.

WE REALLY FOCUSED ON COPING SKILLS, DOING THINGS TO TRY TO SET STUDENTS UP SO THAT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING WHEN THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTED.

THEY ALSO DID A CHALLENGE COURSE, WHICH WAS AMAZING, WE TOOK A LITTLE FIELD TRIP AND QUALITATIVELY, I WILL SAY, THEY WERE ASKING US WHY THIS WAS NOT LONGER AND THEY WERE ALSO TALKING ABOUT WHEN WE DO THIS NEXT SUMMER AND WHO ELSE CAN WE INVITE.

WE WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WE JUST HAVE A FEW PICTURES THERE OF OUR COORDINATORS WHO WERE ABLE TO DO SOME EXTRA DAYS BECAUSE THEY'RE 11 MONTH, AND A FEW OF THEM DID COME IN AND DO EXTRA TIME TO WORK WITH THE STUDENTS.

WE LOVE THE FACT THAT WE HAVE THE PICTURE OF OUR PARTNERS AND WE DIDN'T HAVE A FULL PICTURE BECAUSE DIFFERENT ONES CAME IN THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, BUT WE HAD SOUND BOWL.

WE HAD MEDITATION, , WE HAD EXERCISE, WE HAD NUTRITION AND I'M GOING TO JUST POINT FOR A MOMENT AND SAY, MRS. BART, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE BECAUSE IT WAS

NOW, ALL THE STAFF FEEDBACK I GOT WAS POSITIVE, THEY ENJOYED THEIR TIME AT CAMP PECOMETH, ANOTHER PARTNER OF OURS THAT IS WHERE THEY SPENT THE DAY ON THURSDAY.

IT WAS JUST REALLY COOL TO GET A GROUP OF KIDS FROM TWO DIFFERENT SCHOOLS THAT NEVER MET EACH OTHER, TOGETHER ON THAT THURSDAY TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND SOME TIME AND LEARN TO GROW IN THEIR OWN SKIN A LITTLE BIT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE THERE.

NO, JUST THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LET THE PROVIDERS POP IN AND SUPPORT IN ALL THE SPACE THAT THE KIDS NEEDED.

>> AGAIN, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE REALLY WANT TO EMPHASIZE IS GROWING THOSE PARTNERSHIPS.

IN OF THE SLIDES, WE DO NEED TO GO BACK AND MAKE SURE WE GIVE YOU A FULLER VIEW BECAUSE WE DID HAVE A COUPLE OF STUDENTS WHO ALSO WENT TO UMES FOR SOME SUMMER PROGRAMMING.

THEY'VE HAD A PROGRAM FOR ABOUT 5-6 YEARS NOW, WHERE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN A COLLEGE CREDIT AND IT'S GEARED TOWARD SPECIFICALLY TURNING STUDENTS WHO ARE TRADITIONALLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, BEING THE MALE STUDENTS.

WE HAD TWO STUDENTS THAT SCHEDULED FROM EACH HIGH SCHOOL, BOTH OF WHICH WHO WOULD LOVE TO COME AND TALK TO YOU ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE.

THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 50 STUDENTS IN ALL ON THE SUMMER PROGRAM AND IT WAS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, IT IS A FULL IMMERSION PROGRAM, SO WE TRANSPORTED THEM DOWN EVERY MONDAY MORNING VERY EARLY BECAUSE THEY HAD TO BE AT UMES BY EIGHT O'CLOCK.

THEN THEY ATTENDED CLASS FROM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, WE BROUGHT THEM HOME FRIDAY EVENING.

FOR OUR STUDENTS, IT'S THE FIRST TASTE OF LIVING IN A COLLEGE DORM AND THEY REALLY LIVED LIKE COLLEGE STUDENTS.

NOW, THEY WERE IN ONE CLASS ALL DAY, BUT THEY ATE ON CAMPUS, THEY USED THE FACILITIES, ETC, THEY WAS SUPERVISION, OUR AID'S THE ENTIRE TIME.

THEY DID DO SOME EXCURSIONS, THEY WENT TO A COUPLE OF MUSEUMS IN DC, I DID SOME OTHER OPPORTUNITIES, BUT THIS ALSO ALLOWS THEM TO BE ACCEPTED STUDENTS, UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE SET A LITTLE PRESSURE OFF OF THEM AS THEY GO FORWARD.

FOR OUR PARENTS, IF YOU'RE LIKE ME AND YOU WERE A FIRST GEN COLLEGE STUDENT AND I DIDN'T GO.

I WORKED MY WAY THROUGH, SO I WENT TO COLLEGE AT NIGHT.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THAT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE WHEN MY DAUGHTER WENT TO COLLEGE, IT WAS AN EYE OPENER.

FOR OUR PARENTS IS IT'S A SMALLER OPPORTUNITY, WHAT IT'S LIKE WHEN YOU DROP YOUR KIDS OFF AND LEAVE AND THEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE NOT THAT FAR AWAY, SO IT'S A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ALL INVOLVED.

WE'RE HOPING THAT IT'S A PARTNERSHIP WILL ABLE TO CONTINUE IN THE FUTURE AND IT DID PRESENT US WITH A SMALL CERTIFICATE AS A PARTNER ORGANIZATION THAT I'D LIKE TO PRESENT TO DR. SIMMONS AND DR. WAYMAN, IT IS JUST RECOGNIZING CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP IN TRYING TO ADVANCE MORE STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION.

IT HAS HAPPENED FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES.

BUT THIS YEAR, NORTH CAROLINA WELCOMED RIDGELY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO NORTH CAROLINA FOR A WEEK OF DISCOVERY, CREATIVITY, AND FUN.

THE THEME THIS YEAR WAS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL STEM LEADERS PLANNED, PREPARED, AND TAUGHT LESSONS TO THE RIGLEY STUDENTS.

A FAVORITE HIGHLIGHT DURING THIS WEEK WAS A VISIT FROM CHOPTANK ELECTRIC, ANOTHER PARTNER, WHERE STUDENTS EXPERIENCED A DEMONSTRATION ABOUT ELECTRICITY AND FIBER OPTICS AND THAT REALLY SPARKED THE ELEMENTARY STUDENT'S CURIOSITY AND WONDER AND ALL OF THIS, HOPEFULLY, LEADING TO AN INCREASED AWARENESS OF ENGINEERING AND OUR ENGINEERING PATHWAY.

THE PROGRAM WAS ACTUALLY LED BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT MENTORS THAT WERE ACTUALLY GUIDED BY STAFF MEMBERS, MS. LAUREN SCHILLING, AND PRINCIPAL SPIKER, AND ALSO SUPPORTED BY THE YMCA LEADER, MS. EMILY GLOVER, AND BOB DE GORE, SO REALLY IN PARTNERSHIPS TO REALLY MAKE THIS PROGRAM TAKE OFF.

WE HOPE THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST BUT NOT THE LAST IN HALF WAY AND ANNUAL.

THE STUDENTS HAVE TO RAISE THE FUNDS.

STUDENTS HAVE TO DESIGN THE DAY, THE STUDENTS HAVE TO DO ALL THOSE THINGS, NOW IT'S WITHIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.

HE DOES HELP PROVIDE THEM, THAT SAFE SANDBOX TO PLAY IN, BUT THEY LEARN HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY AND THEY'RE GOING TO PEOPLE THAT, THEY KNOW WHERE THE OUTCOME IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE.

BUT THE STUDENTS LEARN THAT PIECE OF HOW DO I TALK TO AN ADULT? HOW DO I MAKE AN ASK? HOW DO I PUT TOGETHER A COHESIVE CONVERSATION THAT'S ON A TEXT MESSAGE? HOW DO I CARRY MYSELF? HOW DO I PRESENT MYSELF WHEN I SHOW UP TO SOMETHING LIKE THIS? SOMETHING FAILED, HOW DO I RESPOND BECAUSE IT DIDN'T GO THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO? REALLY IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE KIDS TO BUILD THOSE RESILIENCY SKILLS.

THEY ARE GUIDED, IT'S NOT GOING TO FAIL, BUT THEY'RE DEFINITELY GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY WHERE THEY REALLY HAVE TO RISE AMONGST THEMSELVES.

IT'S NEAT EXPERIENCE.

SCHOOL BASED WELLNESS CENTERS WERE OPEN AND YOU SEE THERE WERE DENTAL VISITS, ACUTE CARE VISITS, STAFF WERE ABLE TO COME IN FOR VISITS, COMMUNITY MEMBER VISITS, SPORTS PHYSICALS, THEY PROVIDED BAGS OF PRODUCE TO STUDENTS.

THEY ALSO DID SEL GROUPS, AS WELL AS 32 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN KIDS IN THE KITCHEN EVENTS, SO WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS PROGRAM WITHOUT OUR HEALTH SERVICES.

IN ADDITION, IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT TRANSPORTATION AND ALL OF THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS, THE STEM PROGRAM UPWARD BOUND AT CHESAPEAKE.

THAT WAS DONE THROUGH THE TRIO PROGRAM, BUT OUR BUSES ACTUALLY WERE THE TRANSPORTATION, HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT RECOVERY, RECREATION AND PARKS, GREENSBORO ELEMENTARY HAD A LITTLE PRE-K PROGRAM.

WE HAD STUDENTS GO TO CAMP LAZY DAYS IN EASTON.

WE HAD THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CAREER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM.

WE EVEN HAD VANS ON THE ROAD TO, AS MR. HOWE SAID, TO UMES AND FOR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS EVENTS.

OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT, WE ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT HAVE PUT MANY STUDENTS IN OPPORTUNITIES WITHOUT THEM.

THEN I WANT TO AGAIN, THANK FOOD SERVICES, AS YOU CAN SEE, OVER 100,000 MEALS SERVED THIS SUMMER, SO WITHOUT ALL OF OUR PARTNERS AND ALL OF THE DIFFERENT DIVISIONS OF CAROLINE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, WE COULD NOT HAVE 1,000 STUDENTS PLUS PARTICIPATING IN SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES.

THEY'RE VERY CLOSE TO BEING DONE.

FOUR ARE GOING TO BE FINISHED BY MID SEPTEMBER, AND THREE ARE GOING TO BE DONE BY DECEMBER.

THE LAST THREE THAT ARE GOING TO BE DONE BY DECEMBER WILL NOT IMPACT STUDENTS OR THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

THEY REALLY NEED IT LIKE IN APRIL, WHICH IS WAY TOO EARLY FOR US TO TALK ABOUT SUMMER PROJECTS OFFICIALLY.

IN ORDER TO GET SOMETHING DONE FOR THE OPENING DAY OF SCHOOL FOR THEM TO ORDER THE PRODUCT, FABRICATE IT, GET DELIVERED HERE AND INSTALLED, WE'RE LOOKING AT LIKE MID APRIL AS A FORMAL REQUEST TO HAVE SOMETHING ORDERED.

COMING IN MID JUNE, IT JUST WASN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

I THINK THAT'S ABOUT TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM HAPPENING, AND THEN WE'LL HAVE ALL THE LOCKERS IN THERE AS WELL.

AT LOCHAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE REMODELED THE HIGH ROAD ROOM.

WE DID A SPACE ENCLOSURE CONVERSION IN THAT ROOM IN THAT BUILDING.

THERE WAS A SPACE THAT USED TO BE LIKE A CONCESSION STAND NEXT ACROSS THE HALL FROM THE GYM.

THERE WAS REALLY JUST A STORAGE PLACE.

THEY SAID WE NEED MORE OFFICE SPACE AND CAN WE CONVERT IT, SO WE WERE ABLE TO CONVERT THAT FORM.

THAT'S GOOD TO GO. WE DID THE GYM FLOOR THERE AS WELL.

WE ALSO PUT NEW FLOOR TILE DOWN THE CAFETERIA.

THIS WAS A THE FINISHING OF LAST YEAR'S REMODEL PROJECT FROM FOOD SERVICE IN THE CAFETERIA.

WE JUST COULDN'T GET IT ALL DONE LAST SUMMER, SO WE ARE TO GET THAT DONE THIS SUMMER.

COLONEL MIDDLE. OBVIOUSLY, THE FULL ROOF REPLACEMENT AS YOU SEE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE THERE.

THEY ARE VERY CLOSE TO BEING DONE WITH THAT.

THEY HAD SOME MORE SHEETING THEY HAVE TO DO AND THEY MEASURED IT AND IT WAS THE WRONG SIZE.

WE WERE ABLE TO GET THEM TO DO THAT FOR US AS WELL.

THEY ACTUALLY HAD EXTRA SUPPLIES LEFT OVER FROM THIS PROJECT, AND THEY ALSO APPLY FOR THAT.

WE TOOK THE DESKS AND THE FURNITURE AND EVERYTHING THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE WALL.

WE LIFTED THE FLOOR UP, WE PUT A NEW FLOOR IN AND WE GOT NEW FURNITURE.

THE REASON WHY WE GOT BEHIND ON AS IS BECAUSE OF THE INITIAL ROOF PROJECT.

THEN WHEN WE THOUGHT WE CAN GO IN AGAIN, BUT WE CAN'T GO, THE ROOFERS MOVED AWAY, AND SO WE LOST THAT TIME.

IT WAS FLOW A LITTLE BIT, TO TRY AND MATCH IT UP.

THE OTHER THING IS A HOT WATER HEATER IS ONGOING, THAT WILL BE INSTALLED BY MID SEPTEMBER.

THAT IS REALLY PURELY FOR REDUNDANCY PURPOSES.

IT IS NOT REQUIRED.

THE KERNEL CAMPUS, THE WATER HEATERS ARE REDUNDANT IN BOTH SCHOOLS, EXCEPT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS BEEN DOWN FOR A LONG TIME AND SO WE NEED TO GET THAT UP.

THE OTHER ONE IS IN GOOD WORKING SHAPE.

IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE NEW TO TEACHING, WE'VE GOT MENTORSHIP AND OTHER THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN.

BUT LET'S GET YOU ACCLIMATED TO CAROLINE COUNTY.

51% OF ALL OF OUR TEACHERS THIS YEAR, NEW TEACHERS WERE TEACHING LAST YEAR.

THEY ARE SEASONED EXPERIENCED TEACHERS THAT MADE THE DECISION TO JOIN US EITHER FROM A NEIGHBORING MARYLAND JURISDICTION OR FROM DELAWARE.

I'M SORRY, 29% OUR STUDENTS.

THESE ARE OUR FOLKS WHO JUST GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE.

TEN YEARS AGO, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY FLIPPED AS FAR AS EXPERIENCE AND NEW COLLEGE GRADS, 5% COME FROM INDUSTRY OR DID SOMETHING OTHER THAN EDUCATION.

ABOUT 7% ARE GROW YOUR OWN.

FOLKS THAT WE INVESTED IN AND SAW BECOME TEACHERS THAT WERE OUR OWN SUPPORT STAFF.

4% IS A RETURNING EMPLOYEE.

THOSE ARE FOLKS THAT WORKED FOR US PREVIOUSLY LEFT FOR SOME REASON AND HAVE MADE THEIR WAY BACK, AND THEN 4% ARE RETIREE HIRE.

THESE FOLKS RETIRED FROM US, AND THEN WE HAD POSITIONS AND THE STATE DOES ALLOW SOME CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE YOU CAN REHIRE FOLKS THAT HAVE RETIRED AND SO WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

THE REQUIREMENT IS YOU HAVE TO TRY, YOU HAVE TO POST THE JOB, BUT IF IT'S STILL OPEN AT A CERTAIN POINT, THEN YOU CAN GO THERE AND THAT'S WHAT WE DID.

LIKE I SAID, IT WAS A VERY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE THIS YEAR.

NOT TO SAY IS ANY LESS BUSY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE'S UNEXPECTED VACANCIES COME UP, IN MY WORLD, YOU FEEL LIKE JULY 15.

THAT'S WHEN THE TEACHER CONTRACT CLOSES AND TEACHERS CAN'T MOVE ANYMORE, AND YOU TAKE THIS BREATH.

BUT WE HAD VACANCIES COME UP AFTER THAT BECAUSE LIFE HAPPENS AND WE WERE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THEM.

BUT WE ARE FULLY STAFFED AND THAT SUPPORT CONTRACT, LIKE I SAID, WE'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TRACK BECAUSE IT'S JUST SUCH A MOVING TARGET, OUR SUPPORT RETENTION RATE.

IT IS SOMETHING WE'RE GOING TO TRACK THIS YEAR.

IF YOU LOOK AT OUR TEACHER RETENTION RATE, AND YOU TAKE RETIREES OFF BECAUSE IF YOU'VE WORKED HERE LONG ENOUGH TO RETIRE, WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG.

YOU JUST RETIRED BECAUSE YOU DESERVE TO.

BUT WE'RE AT ABOVE 95% FOR TEACHER RETENTION RATE.

THE SOCIETY OF HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGERS OR SHERM, WHICH IS THE PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR FOLKS IN MY OFFICE SAYS THAT IF ANY ORGANIZATION IS ABOVE 90, YOU HAVE A HEALTHY CLIMATE AND HEALTHY.

WE ARE AWARE OF SOME FAMILIES ENDED UP TAKING A LITTLE BIT LATER VACATION, LIKE THE SCHOOLS ARE REALLY ON TOP OF THAT.

BUT WE WALKED IN OVER 5,000 TODAY.

IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FROM BEING A COLONEL WATCHING THE KIDS ARRIVE AND THEN DENTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AS THE BOARD IS AWARE, I GOT TO PLAY TAXI SERVICE FOR SOME CCTC STUDENTS WHO NEEDED TO GET THERE TODAY.

THE STUDENTS WERE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB.

THE STAFF WERE THERE WAS JUST AN INCREDIBLE VIBE IN EVERY BUILDING TODAY.

THAT WAS IT ECHOES WHAT DR. WILBY WAS TALKING ABOUT, JUST A HEALTHY, A REALLY HEALTHY FEELING ACROSS EVERY SINGLE BUILDING. IT WAS PERMEATING.

I WAS AT FETELSBURG TODAY AT 1:15 IN THE AFTERNOON, AND IT WAS A NEW TEACHER AND HER KIDS WERE FANTASTIC.

I GOT TO WATCH THEM COMING DOWN THE HALLWAY, GOING TO THEIR SPECIALS, AND THOSE KIDS KNEW ROUTINE, THEY WERE ON, HAD TO SHOUT THAT OUT TOO BECAUSE 1:15 ON THE FIRST DAY OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR A NEW TEACHER SMILING THE WHOLE TIME.

THEY WERE THERE. IT WAS A GREAT VIBE TODAY, A GREAT FEEL.

WE'RE OFF TO A GREAT START. TRANSPORTATION DID A GREAT JOB.

THEY COMMUNICATED REALLY WELL WITH FAMILIES ABOUT BUS PICKUP TIMES, 14 EMAILS, I BELIEVE IT WAS.

IT WAS A COLITCH IN THE SYSTEM, NOT ON OUR END.

BUT BUT MAYBE IT WAS A GOOD GLITCH BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKE 14 REMINDERS OF WHAT TIME YOUR BUSES COMING TO GET KIDS TODAY [OVERLAPPING] BUT IN ALL REALITY, TRANSPORTATION WENT REALLY WELL.

BUSES HAD PICK UP TIMES, DISMISSAL TIMES WERE REALLY GOOD, ONLY A FEW SMALL HICCUPS, BUT THOSE TYPICALLY HAPPENED IN THE VERY BEGINNING, BUT FLOWED VERY WELL.

HATS OFF TO THE MAINTENANCE GUYS, NOT ONLY GOT THE BUILDINGS TOGETHER, EVEN TODAY HOTS IN WITH A COUPLE OF THINGS BECAUSE WHEN YOU THROW 5,000 PEOPLE ON 1,000 EMPLOYEES IN BUILDINGS, ALL OF A SUDDEN, SOMETIMES SOME THINGS THAT WORKED.

LAST WEEK, MIGHT FEEL A LITTLE OVERWHELMED.

THEN THE MAINTENANCE GUYS COME AND HELP KEEP IT GOING AND THEY DID A GREAT JOB TODAY BEING FLEXIBLE.

I WAS AT GREENSBORO DURING THEIR LUNCH SHIFTS.

IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS WORKING WELL.

THE KIDS WERE GREAT. THE LINE LOOKED WONDERFUL.

IT WAS LIKE DAY ONE.

IT WAS REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF THE FACT THAT WAS SUCH A NICE SUCH A NICE ROOM HAD BEEN CREATED FOR THE SRO THERE.

THE REST OF MY DAY WAS SPENT BACK AT WORK WELCOMING ALL OF OUR SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTER STAFF BACK FOR THE YEAR.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT WE ARE SO EXCITED TO GET BACK INTO THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND HAVE FACES THERE US.

I FELT THE DIFFERENCE LAST YEAR VERSUS THIS YEAR.

IT'S ALWAYS A REALLY FUN EVENT, AND I LIKE HOW EXCITED ALL THE SCHOOLS ARE.

BUT IT FELT SPECIAL THAT SOME OF THE SUPPORT STAFF WERE ABLE TO MAKE SOME COMMENTS ABOUT HOW GREAT IT WAS, DR. SIMMONS MESSAGE AND SOME OF WHAT HE SHARED THAT DAY AND HOW APPRECIATIVE THEY WERE TO BE ABLE TO BE THERE WITH THEIR SCHOOL FAMILY.

I THINK IT WAS A REALLY GREAT START FOR THEM FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR.
