SHE HAD A SCHEDULE CONFLICT AND ALSO APOLOGIZED FOR BEING A FEW MINUTES LATE. WE HAD A COUPLE OF TECHNICAL CHALLENGES. HOPEFULLY ALL OF YOU WHO ARE OUT THERE WATCHING. HUNG IN THERE WITH US. IF YOU'RE NOT HERE, LET US KNOW. THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE. SO ANYWAY, THE MOTION CARRIES, MEETING IS OPEN, AND WE'RE GOING TO START WITH A PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. RIGHT? BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT. HERE. PUT YOUR HAND IN YOUR HEART. SALUTE ALL OF THAT. ALL RIGHT. HAND ON HEART. I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UNITED STATES, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS. ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU FOR THAT, EVERYONE. AND IT'S GREAT TO BE HERE WITH YOU THIS WAY. THANK YOU, RACHEL, FOR SETTING UP THE ZOOM. I KNOW WE'RE ALL A LITTLE OUT OF PRACTICE, OR AT LEAST SOME OF US ARE WITH ZOOM AND MY WORK. WE DO IT QUITE A BIT, BUT I RARELY AM THE ONE SETTING IT UP. SO IT'S. IT IS A TECHNIQUE, A LEARNED SKILL. SO WE HAVE AN AGENDA THAT'S VERY BRIEF. IT INCLUDES PERSONNEL ACTIONS AND SOME CONSENT AGENDA, PERSONNEL ACTIONS AND SOME ACTION ITEMS. AND THE TEAM DERRICK'S TEAM HAS BEEN WORKING HARD TO GET THESE APPOINTMENTS IN PLACE FOR OUR CONSIDERATION. DO WE HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA? SO MOVE. ALL RIGHT. MICHELE MADE THE MOTION. DO WE HAVE A SECOND? SECOND. ALL RIGHT, WE'RE GOING TO DO IT THIS WAY. ANYBODY WHO DOES NOT AGREE SAY AYE OR NAY. SO PASSED FOUR ZERO. ALL RIGHT. CONSENT AGENDA. [2. Consent Agenda] PERSONNEL ACTIONS. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. DR. SIMMONS, WE HAVE A VERY BRIEF PERSONNEL AGENDA FOR YOU TODAY. IT INCLUDES TWO INDIVIDUALS THAT WOULD LIKE TO RESCIND THEIR RESIGNATIONS THAT YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY APPROVED THEIR RESIGNATIONS, AND THEY WOULD NOW LIKE TO RESCIND THOSE SO THEY CAN STAY WITH US. AND TEACHING CAPACITY AND ONE ADMINISTRATIVE TITLE CHANGE. ALL RIGHT. ANY. QUESTIONS. COMMENTS. NONE. ALL RIGHT. THAT'S. UH, I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE. I SO MOVED. SECONDED BY. MR. CHAIRMAN. ALL RIGHT. BYE, MR. JONES. ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? I WOULD LIKE TO JUST SAY THAT IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE THAT A COUPLE OF PEOPLE. UH, CHANGE THEIR MIND. WANTED TO STAY WITH US. THAT'S REALLY GREAT. JUST IMPROVES OUR RETENTION. AND THAT'S REALLY A COMPLIMENT TO THE SYSTEM, I BELIEVE. BUT NONETHELESS, IT'S GOOD NEWS. AND KEEPING GOOD PEOPLE IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT. SO I THINK THIS TIME, BECAUSE IT'S A CONSENT AGENDA AND PERSONNEL HIRING, WE WILL HAVE AN ACTUAL VOTE. SO ALL IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION. SAY, I. I. ALL RIGHT. THAT'S FOUR IN FAVOR. AND I APOLOGIZE FOR MY CAMERA. IT JUST ISN'T WORKING, RIGHT? IT'S ALL RIGHT. WE CAN HEAR YOU LOUD AND CLEAR, MICHELE. THANK YOU. SO THE MOTION CARRIES. THANK YOU, DR. WILLOUGHBY. WE CAN NOW MOVE ON TO ACTION ITEMS. [3. Action Items] WE HAVE LOOKED LIKE TWO ACTION ITEMS. YES, SIR. THANK YOU, MR. BARTON. AND I WANT TO THANK OUR BOARD MEMBERS FOR BEING ABLE TO JOIN US TODAY FOR A. SHORT NOTICE OF A BOARD MEETING. AS WE ARE FILLING OUR ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS AND OUR ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS. WE DID NOT WANT TO WAIT UNTIL JULY 11TH, WHICH IS OUR NEXT BOARD MEETING. SO AGAIN, I APPRECIATE YOU GUYS GIVING OF YOUR TIME TO BE HERE TODAY FOR THESE TWO TWO APPOINTMENTS THAT ARE BEFORE YOU. FOR OUR FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENT ACTION ITEM. THE CURRENT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT GREENSBORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MRS. JACKIE MURRAY, WILL BE ONE OF THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AT GREENSBORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEXT YEAR. MRS. MURRAY WILL DO AN OUTSTANDING JOB. [00:05:01] SHE'S FILLING THE SEAT VACATED BY MRS. MARY JO KERR, WHO THE BOARD RECENTLY APPROVED AS PRINCIPAL OF GREENSBORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR. WITH MRS. MURRAY LEAVING PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IT THEN OPENED THAT POSITION. AND THANKFULLY OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM UNDER REALLY DR. WILLOUGHBY'S WORK. A LITTLE BIT EARLIER THIS SPRING, WE HELD ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POOL INTERVIEWS. SO WE HAD A NUMBER OF ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CANDIDATES WHO PUT IN FOR ANY OPENINGS THAT WE HAD. SO WE HAD A STRONG POOL OF CANDIDATES TO GO TO TO FIND THE BEST FIT FOR PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. SO I COME BEFORE YOU TODAY WITH THE RECOMMENDATION AND THE ACTION ITEM TO APPOINT MRS. ANN WATERS AS THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THIS IS WATERS BEGAN HER CAREER IN CAROLINE COUNTY AS A FOURTH GRADE TEACHER AT GREENSBORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND TAUGHT FOR FOUR YEARS BECOMING A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER. SHE DID LEAVE CAROLINE COUNTY FOR A LITTLE BIT OF TIME AND WORK IN A NEIGHBORING COUNTY, AND SHE RETURNED TO US IN 2020 AS A READING SPECIALIST AND INSTRUCTIONAL COACH AT PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WHERE SHE'S BEEN FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. MRS. WATERS HAS BEEN A VITAL MEMBER OF THEIR LEADERSHIP TEAM, AS MR. ANGELINA ANGELONE SPOKE ABOUT TO ME AS WELL. MRS. WATERS HAS COMPLETED THE CAROLINE ASPIRING LEADERS PROGRAM. SHE WAS IN OUR COHORT AND SHE HAS ALSO BEEN IN CHARGE OF THE HIGH DOSAGE TUTORING PROGRAM THAT THE BOARD HEARD ABOUT AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING. THE IMPACT THERE, MRS. WATERS OVERSAW THAT PROGRAM FOR PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO GET IT OFF THE GROUND. AND IT DID A FANTASTIC JOB FOR THE STUDENTS AND WORKING WITH THE STAFF. SO BOARD ASKED FOR YOUR APPROVAL IN NAMING MRS. DIANE WATERS AS THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT PRESTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST. CAN YOU REPEAT THAT? SHE WAS PART OF THE ASPIRING. SAY THAT AGAIN. SURE. SO, MR. BARTON. MRS. WATERS PARTICIPATED IN OUR CAROLINE ASPIRING LEADERS PROGRAM, WHICH WAS A PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY LINDSAY MCCORMICK, WORKING ALSO ALONGSIDE DR. ORR TO GROW THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS FROM WITHIN OUR OWN RANKS. MS.. WATERS DID COMPLETE THAT PROGRAM AS WELL AS, OF COURSE, HAS HER CERTIFICATIONS IN LEADERSHIP TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THIS POSITION. EXCELLENT. OKAY. DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS BEFORE WE ENTERTAIN A MOTION? ALL RIGHT. THIS IS OUR MOTION TO APPROVE THIS. A MOTION. WE APPROVE. MS.. WATERS. MOTION BY MR. JONES. WE HAVE A SECOND. SECOND. SECOND. ANY DISCUSSION? FURTHER DISCUSSION. UH, SO WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS MRS. MURRAY GOING TO FROM PRESTON TO GREENSBORO AND DAN WATERS BECOMING THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT PRESTON ELEMENTARY. UM, AND I'VE ASKED AGAIN, JUST FOR CLARIFICATION. I THOUGHT I HEARD YOU RIGHT. I'VE HEARD OF THE PROGRAM BEFORE, BUT THE. THE ASPIRING LEADERS PROGRAM. A GREAT IDEA, A GOOD THING TO DO, AND ENCOURAGE OTHER PEOPLE WHO WANT TO ADVANCE TO SEEK THAT OUT AND GET THAT OPPORTUNITY. SO. ALL RIGHT. UNLESS ANYBODY HAS ANYTHING ELSE, WE'LL ENTERTAIN A VOTE. AND AGAIN, WE'LL LOOK FOR AN ACTUAL VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR? I. OKAY. LOOKS LIKE IT'S UNANIMOUS. 4 TO 0 AND. OUTSTANDING. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. OUR SECOND ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENT. OUR SECOND ACTION ITEM IS FOR AN OPEN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION AT LOCKERMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE CANDIDATE THAT COMES TO YOU FOR YOUR APPROVAL WAS INTERVIEWED BY AN INTERVIEW TEAM IN CAROLINE COUNTY FOR AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION WITH A SECONDARY FOLLOW UP INTERVIEW WITH MR. GROSS, PRINCIPAL OF LOCKERMAN. THE CANDIDATE THAT I'M BRINGING BEFORE THE BOARD TODAY, HER NAME IS MRS. ANDREA HILL. MRS. HILL IS CURRENTLY A LEAD TEACHER, TEACHER, SPECIALIST IN QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. SHE HAS SERVED AS AN ACTING ADMINISTRATOR IN HER BUILDING AT A TIME WHEN THE PRINCIPAL WAS OUT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. MRS. HILL BEGAN HER CAREER TEACHING MIDDLE SCHOOL MATHEMATICS IN SOMERSET COUNTY AND HAS HAD A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TEACHING IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR AS WELL, AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS. AND THEN SHE HAS ALSO BEEN AN ELEMENTARY TEACHER AND, AS I STATED, A TEACHER SPECIALIST IN QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. MRS. HILL IS NO STRANGER TO CAROLINE COUNTY. SHE IS A RESIDENT OF OF OUR COUNTY. SHE HAS WORKED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AT OUR CAROLINE COUNTY YMCA BRANCH, PART IN A PART TIME CAPACITY. SHE KNOWS SEVERAL OF OUR FAMILIES, SEVERAL OF OUR STAFF THROUGH THAT AND ALSO LIVING HERE. [00:10:02] MRS. HILL HAD A GREAT MEETING WITH MR. GROH AND MYSELF AND THINKING ABOUT THE PROSPECTS AT LOCKERMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL. AND SHE BRINGS A NOT ONLY A GREAT INSTRUCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE, BUT A LEVEL OF ENERGY AND STICK WITH IT NESS THAT I BELIEVE, AND MR. GROH BELIEVES WILL BE A GREAT ASSET TO THAT SCHOOL MOVING THINGS FORWARD. SO AGAIN, I ASK THAT THE BOARD APPROVE MRS. ANDREA HILL AS THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL LOCKERMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST. HE SAID SHE'S COMING FROM QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. YES, MA'AM. OKAY. OTHER QUESTIONS. COMMENTS. OKAY. WE'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE. I'LL MAKE THE MOTION TO APPROVE. ALL RIGHT. DO WE HAVE A SECOND? SECOND. THANK YOU. MICHELE. MICHELE SECONDS. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? COMMENTS, DISCUSSION. ALL RIGHT. SINCE THERE'S NONE. ALL IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION. I. I40. OUTSTANDING. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE HERE. THAT. WHAT IS A NEW HIRE? A NEW APPOINTMENT. WE HAVE FOUR IF I COUNTED. RIGHT. FOUR ACTIONS. AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL. THIS IS WONDERFUL FOR CAROLINE COUNTY AND. AND WE ALWAYS WANT TO DO OUR BEST AND IN FACT, DO BETTER IF WE CAN. SO. ALL RIGHT WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE THERE. [4. Upcoming Meetings/Events] THE NEXT THING ON THE AGENDA IS UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS. IT'S PRETTY SHORT. YEAH, WE HAVE TWO THINGS ON THERE, SO. A FEW OF US WILL BE AT THE DISTRICT RETIREMENT CELEBRATION LATER TODAY. THAT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT SMILES AND TEARS AT THE SAME TIME. AND THE EVENT, I THINK. MICHELE YOU SIGNED UP. I'M TRYING TO LOOK AT IT, GETTING A GOOD LOOK HERE. THAT'S ON THE 22ND. YES. YES. I PLAN TO GO. AND DEREK, I KIND OF MENTIONED I DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME, BUT I I'M MY GRANDSON EAGLE SCOUT THING IS THAT EVENING SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME WE'LL HAVE TO LEAVE TO GO. OKAY. CERTAINLY RIGHT NOW, I BELIEVE WE'RE SCHEDULED TO END AROUND 2:00. OH, OKAY. MISS WAYMAN. THAT'S CERTAINLY OKAY. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. YEP. YEAH, I CAN SPEAK FOR MYSELF THAT I INITIALLY CHECKED THAT I WOULD GO TO THAT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, BUT I'VE HAD SOMETHING FOR ALL OF NEXT WEEK COME UP ON MY SCHEDULE THAT I REALLY HAVE TO DO BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE VERY MUCH TO BE AT THAT. SO MICHELE, THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE AND ATTENDING AND REPRESENTING US. THAT'S IMPORTANT. SURE. AND I'LL BRING BACK WHATEVER I CAN. GOOD. THANK YOU. WE KNOW YOU WILL. I ALSO KNOW WE GOT A COMMUNICATION, ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT LISTED HERE, ABOUT THE RETIREMENT FOR THE MAIB EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. THAT'S FRANCIS GLENDINNING IN JULY. I DON'T HAVE THE DATE MEMORIZED. I'M GOING TO TRY TO GO TO THAT. I CAN'T STAY THE WHOLE TIME, BUT I THINK IT'S GOOD FOR AT LEAST ONE OF US TO BE THERE. I THINK IT'D BE GOOD, ESPECIALLY WITH MILTON STEPPING UP. IT PROBABLY WOULD BE GOOD. YEAH. WHEN IS THAT? I THINK JULY 12TH. BUT I'M NOT POSITIVE. YEAH, I THINK YOU'RE CORRECT. I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT, BUT IT WASN'T. LET ME DOUBLE CHECK THAT A SECOND HERE. AND IF THERE'S NONE OF US THAT ARE AVAILABLE, I MAY BE AVAILABLE THAT DAY. YEAH, I'M AVAILABLE THAT DAY, BUT I CAN'T FOR THE WHOLE THING. I HAVE TO BE BACK IN COUNTY BY 330. UM, AND I KNOW I KNEW HER A LITTLE BIT YEARS AGO IN THE PAST, MY PAST ROLE WHEN ACTUALLY WHEN SHE WAS THE FIRST LADY HAD INTERACTION WITH HER AND PEOPLE THAT WORKED FOR ME HAD A LOT OF INTERACTION WITH HER. AND SHE WAS ALWAYS THE SAME KIND OF PERSON SHE IS NOW JUST. VERY HIGH CLASS, VERY EASY TO TALK WITH, VERY PROFESSIONAL AND SOMEBODY WHO GETS THINGS DONE. AND SHE'S DONE A GREAT JOB. FROM MY OBSERVATION I'VE MADE. SO I'LL TRY TO GO. WHO WAS THAT THAT SAID YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO? IT WAS ME, MARK. OKAY, GOOD. GOOD. AND I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO AS WELL. I SEE. IT'S FROM 1 TO 3 AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE TO STAY THE WHOLE TIME OR, YOU KNOW, STOP IN AND. YOU KNOW, SAY HELLO AND. SOME GREETINGS. SO I'M NOT GOING TO SAY I'LL STAY THE WHOLE TIME. BUT I MET. YEAH, AND I'M IN THAT SAME CATEGORY, SO MAYBE WE CAN FIND OUT IF IT'S A, YOU KNOW, I'M SURE THEY'LL LET US GO IF WE WANTED TO LEAVE, BUT I'D HAVE TO BE OUT OF THERE BY 230. ASSUMING THAT THE BRIDGE IS NOT GOING TO BE BACKED UP, THAT'S ALWAYS A I DON'T KNOW WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK THAT IS. THAT IS A WEDNESDAY. OH, OKAY. BETTER ZOOM IN BECAUSE THAT'S PROBABLY ABOUT THE ONLY TIME YOU'D BE ABLE TO GET BACK IN AN HOUR. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. [00:15:04] YEAH, GOOD POINT. SO I WAS THINKING I MIGHT HAVE TO LEAVE AS EARLY AS TWO, BUT I THINK JUST BEING THERE A LITTLE SAYS A LOT. YEAH. YEAH. ANY OTHER MEETINGS OR EVENTS COMING UP THAT COMES TO MIND FOR ANYONE? HAVE YOU ALL GOTTEN NOTICES ABOUT THE. THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE BEING IN NEW ORLEANS. OKAY. I KNEW I'D GOTTEN A NOTICE THAT. I KNOW. I'VE SEEN THAT. OKAY. WELL, WE ARE AT THE POINT IN THE MEETING WHERE WE CAN ADJOURN IF ANYONE WANTS TO MAKE THAT MOTION. OTHERWISE WE CAN STAY HERE A WHILE. WE HAVE A MOTION TO ADJOURN. I'LL MAKE THE MOTION AND I'LL SECOND IT THOUGH. TROY MADE THE MOTION MICHELE SECOND. ALL IN FAVOR? AYE. AYE. I THOUGHT MARK WAS OBJECTING. I SAW HIS HAND GOING. YEAH, WE ARE. WE ARE ADJOURNED. AND AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLKS THAT. THAT ARE EITHER NEW OR GETTING A PROMOTION OR EVEN A TRANSFER. GREAT STUFF. CERTAINLY. THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH FOR BEING ABLE TO MAKE THIS WORK. I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
