In 2015, the CCPS Board of Education adopted this policy to provide a specific scholarship for Caroline County students who are planning to to become teachers. Specifically, the scholarship seeks to fill critical needs areas, and to diversify instructional staff. At the time, the Board awarded two scholarships. During budget development in 2019, the Board increased the budget allocation to award three scholarships. The policy revision codifies that increase.

The construction of the Greensboro Judy Center follows the construction of the new Greensboro Elementary School and demolition of the old school. The recent COVID pandemic has resulted in significant cost increases for building materials and therefore the GMP is significantly higher than originally budgeted. According to Whiting-Turner officials and other industry experts, waiting will not result in lower numbers. Additional funding has been requested from Federal funding authorities to help close the budget shortfall and any residual shortfall will be shared by the County and the BOE. The exact amount of budget shortfall will not be known for several months, but it’s important to lock these construction contracts now in order to avoid even higher costs. The bid process and procedures complied with Board policy and applicable state laws and regulations. Whiting-Turner will serve as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) for this project and as such will hold the contracts with all of the individual identified trades identified on the attached spreadsheet.
